Critics are disappointed that it doesn't engage the issues that the first couple of movies explored: America's treatment of its veterans. Maybe, to bring it up to date, Stallone should've had Rambo storm a Veterans Affairs office and carry servicemen out to a waiting chopper.

Exactly.

But instead we’ll get like “Rambo VI: Last Breath” in like 10 years....

I want the next one to be named Rambo: Last Blood Part II.

It's a Rambo movie. It's not supposed to be a cinematic masterpiece.
That's fine but it's not suppose to be awful, either.

The first hour is painful but you have to sit thru it to get to the ending where a Mexican cartel, including its leaders, make their way from Mexico to Rambo's ranch in Arizona in cars LOADED with guns and ammunition, then decide to chase him into a rabbit hole where they get "Home Alone'd" into a million pieces.

It's pretty silly.

In all seriousness, I’m surprised they never made a pre-First Blood movie showing a young Rambo enlisting/being drafted and subsequently being moulded into the one man army he would ultimately become known as.

They could have shown him as this scrawny draftee/enlisted kid being trained, bulking up, and soon impressing his commanding officers with his unexpectedly superior natural talents. Flash forward a bit where we’d see him all jacked (now being played by Sly circa 1984) in ‘Nam with Col. Troutman proving just how efficient and lethal one man he could be.....before he gets captured and put in the POW camp.

They'd have to get a young actor for Rambo, which would be the perfect excuse for Stallone to make another movie and pass the torch like he did with Creed.

Im sure, we will see this in the near future. And it could be also with Sly face. With the new face-technology, used in the new movie with Robert De Niro.

I was hopping, Rambo return to Afghanistan and met with the boy, we saw in Rambo 3.

Stallone definitely missed the boat there. In an interview discussing the movie, he said that Rambo has severe PTSD and can not function well in the world. There was an opportunity there to shed more light on the Veterans of today who are silently suffering.

A solid 8+/10 Rambo movie. Did not expect a certain character to die and for it to hit as much as it did. :( But the revenge part, holy shit! The last 20-30 minutes, if you thought the "shooting range" scene on the river bank in the previous one was brutal, then this one tops it.

I actually thought this movie was overall less gory than the 2008 movie... maybe with the exception of how Rambo killed the main villain.

Some interesting facts about this franchise.

... Rambo and Indiana Jones Rode the Same Horse

It's also interesting that Stallone got a $12M jet as payment for Rambo III because Arnie got a $12M payment for during Terminator 2 three years later. Now we know where Arnie got the idea and that he was envious of Sly's ride ;).

Finally saw it. That Mortal Combat Fatality at the end was the peak of John The Butcher Rambo franchise. Nobody should ever touch this and try to reboot.
