Jordan Staal? Or is he injured?

Don't believe Staal is injured. Carolina just like us will be fully healthy and ready to go. There team is pretty damn stacked with 3 solid lines and a defensive corps that, let's be honest, on paper is definitely superior to ours, especially with Hamilton who was no question in the Norris conversation before he got injured, back in action when the games begin.

Our advantage is between the pipes and if Igor is as good as he's been since he's been here, this series should go the full 5 games and could go either way. Let's keep in mind as well, Mrazek has been known to get into a zone where he looks likes like an elite goalie case in point last year's sweep over the Islanders where Mrazek morphed into Dominik Hasek for those 4 games.

So tho on paper we have the advantage in net, it's not out of the question that the Canes with their defensive corps back to full strength, that Mrazek gives them solid play between the pipes. It's going to be so bizarre to watch playin/playoff games with no fans in stands meaning no home ice advantage.

It's going to be truly fascinating as to whether there will be the kind of intensity of these games compared to what we have all gotten used too over the years when our Rangers have been to the dance....can't wait to find out!!...

Rangers are running a Zoom call with JD and he said this:

  • Sounds like the NHL is going to allow teams to bring 31 players to the hub city. That is a huge number and bigger than the 28 that was rumored.
  • Coaches will decide the goalies that get to play. Whoever gives the team the best chance to win should get to play.
  • Best of 5 series is going to likely be 4 games in 5 days (two back-to-backs) and then a day off before a 5th game. Believe this has been said before
  • Kreider is ready to go and possibly was going to be good to go shortly after the original pause.
  • Not sure if they will pump in crowd noise for games, similar to soccer. JD said he liked it and would not be surprised if they do something
  • Concerns with Kakko: Would love to have him play, will follow what doctors indicate if he can play. Have had discussions with Kakko about it. Doctors so far believe it is safe for him to play. If this changes, he will sit out. Kakko can also decide if he does not want play if he does not feel safe to.
  • Lias Andersson: Talking with him still. Got healthy and played well in Sweden. Gorton was talking with GM for HV71. Still deciding if he should stay for another year or come over now for this expanded playoffs.
  • Summary of the season so far: Progression throughout the season, initially we too loose and gave up too much defensively. Turning point was at New Years.
  • Captaincy: Have to pick the right person, but not a current issue with the team. Has not come up in their discussions during the pause.
  • Nils and K'Andre: Miller is likely ready to AHL hockey. Nils, deciding if he should stay in Sweden another year or come over now. Said they are other D that should be getting noticed as well (mentioned Zac Jones)
  • Kravtsov: Going to come to camp (did not specify which one, assuming it is the one in July) and see how it goes. Not easy for everyone on their first shot trying to jump into the NHL, but there is plenty of time for him to develop and mature.

I am worried if they bring in Lias he could turn out to be cancer personality and will spread his ideology to other young players/prospects.

I wonder if the commercial breaks going to be longer to make up for lost revenue or shorter considering 24 teams and only 2 cities.

What is the reason NHL wants teams to bring in so many players?

players located in Vegas hub, will they be allowed to go gamble in their free time? That could be a distraction. And prostitution...+ corona virus?

What will be the home team advantage?

thanks much JG89

btw, re this:"Sounds like the NHL is going to allow teams to bring 31 players to the hub city. That is a huge number and bigger than the 28 that was rumored."

the roster-size rumor that circulated was 28 skaters, which could be right in line with above ....
NHL roster size still to be negotiated - TSN.ca

Las Vegas has excellent ice. So good, in fact, the guys from Arizona went up there to see what they are doing differently.

In addition to the big rink, VGK’s AHL team is going to play at the Orleans Arena this year and the MGM Grand Garden can also accommodate hockey. They will probably use one or the other. VGK also has a three year old training complex with two rinks.
So good in fact that when somebody gets caught cheating at the tables they don't bury them the old-fashioned way in the desert. (Standing room only) They put them on ice!

The day the hockey season was officially postponed, I nearly died.
Now that we know it will resume with Rangers playoff (I mean play-in) hockey, it feels like I am dying a thousand deaths, waiting for it to re-start.

In the meantime, I have totally rearranged my living room......including couch and lounge chair for a better viewing experience. The quadrophonic speakers are all set and ready to blast....that good ole Ranger goal song.

Lmao makes it sound like Andersson is some undercover cult leader trying to encourage other players to abandon the Rangers

Looks like they will give Lias and Kravtsov every chance to come and make the team for the playoffs if they do well.

Gonna be like the wacky races out there in July camp with Haley and Staal playing Dastardly and Muttley.

as long as Haley masters the Muttley laugh, I'm all for giving him a shot to make it :sarcasm:

Re roster size, its not excessive.
In a tyoical playoff season, teams have signed players in AHL, available if needed. After AHL team season ends, if parent still playing, a group of spares are recalled and practice on their own. With 2020 situation, those 'just in case' guys need to be with team all along, with nowhere else to train, skate, practice.

In the course of a season, teams typically use 35+ skaters. In the playoffs, a team that goes to the cup uses 21-23 skaters. We aren't really talking about that much of an extension over what they need anyway.

again there's no way this is going to ever work unless literally everyone involved int his whole thing is tested first and then immediately put in a 100% quaratine for the duration of the "playoffs"
