Don't see why they decided to keep Gauthier over MDC, but oh well.

I look forward to seeing Canada lose again.

Pretty shocking, but he obviously had a ****** camp. It's so obvious that he's better than MOST of the players on that team, but he didn't impress the coaches. I think Horvat showing up late probably hurt his chances. But honestly, he really doesn't have anyone to blame but himself, you have to earn it and prove yourself. Funny thing is, most prognosticators had him on the 1st or 2nd line (top 6 forward).

Being American, I usually root for our boys to win it. Obviously I'll be rooting for USA, Russia and Sweden in that order. Won't be rooting against Canada, but certainly won be rooting for them.

Horvat isn't playing on the team he is staying in Vancouver with the Canucks

That's the problem with evaluation from tiny sample sizes. They know what MDC is capable off doing offensively, yet he is cut because of a mediocre performance in exhibition game. They cut a guy who has 2 ppg and almost 1 goal per game in a meaningful number of games (remember how many fans wanted Strome to be sent down after training camp despite his play last season? that died very quickly). He also may be one of the best power-play wingers available for TC. I really don't understand the top6/bottom6 mentality for a tournament like this. When you have quality 2-way players and Canada does, I don't really see the need for defensive specialists or grinders. When a team has high-end depth skill wise, they should take advantage of that. I hope this decision drives MDC to be even better in the future...

Honestly, I'm glad Dal Colle was cut. Team Canada seems like such a disfunctional and toxic team to be a part of. They always seem to try to outsmart everyone and try to make a statement at the expense of putting together a good team. I've never rooted against them but I hope they get beat up in this tournament. Maybe it will knock them back into reality and show them that they aren't the powerhouse they once were.

They are cocky as all hell and always have been. I want Sorokin & the Russians to succeed.

tbh, MDC looked slow out there, and he was one of their younger players. they said they are going older, with a few exceptions.

Jankowski slapping Snow in the face? very possible. grown men are known to act childish, so it doesn't surprise me.

Canada has better, older, faster options than MDC so it's not a huge deal at all.

Dal Colle plays a pure "NHL" game - the WJC isn't the best tournament for every player.
That said, how do you cut a pure goal scorer when you need help scoring goals.
Peculiar.

Heard Bob McKenzie question this MDC cut as well especially since he was tearing up the OHL, compared it to Sean Monahan being cut before his stellar NHL debut the following year (and since).

Canada had Petan, McDavid and Lazar sitting out last night, too.

heard only great things about Sorokin also. :handclap:

Notable players left off the Canadian WJC team off the top of my head.

Tyler Seguin, Damon Severson.

As a Hurricanes fan who wanted Fleury to make it, I found this quote to be quite interesting and true. It goes for MDC as well so I figured I'd share it here.

I've always found it interesting how the perception of the importance of a player's age is conveyed in a December tournament when the cutoff for the draft is in September. For instance, McDavid, Eichel and Hanifin are much closer in age to Dal Colle and Fleury than Dal Colle and Fleury are to the likes of Reinhart or Ritchie; and yet, there is such a stigma associated with 'undrafted' players making a team or high recent draft picks being cut. I expect both of these 'cuts' to have as great or greater an impact than Ritchie and possibly even Reinhart in next year's tourney when they are the same age as Reinhart and Ritchie are now.
