5. Tkachuk, 8. Stützle, 27. Sanderson, 66. Pinto, 128. Greig, 130. Sokolov

I'm sour on the Boucher pick also, but you have to give the organization credit for their hits as well as their misses, and accept the fact that it is the same team, principles and approach that led to the successful picks as well as the unsuccessful ones. No one ever bats 1000 drafting 18 year old kids - all you can reasonably ask is that we are better than most of our opponents in terms of drafting guys who end up playing in the league...

I love these threads that are behind paywalls.

Anyway, great to hear his take on Boucher -

u23 not surprising we are near the top
Norris, Formenton, and Brannstrom just graduated so with that, no picks in the first 2 rounds last draft, and Boucher being a huge reach at 10 the year before, 5 is a good place to be.

Formenton and Brannstrom are still U23, I thought September 15th was cutoff. I think he screwed up.

Player Eligibility: All skaters who are 22 years old or younger as of Sept. 15, 2022, regardless of how many NHL games they’ve played, are eligible. Player heights and weights are taken from the NHL.

Brannstrom will be 23 on September 2nd. Formenton on September 13th. Brady Tkachuk who will 23 on September 16th makes the cut.

Thanks, I would’ve had his puck skills a notch higher.

Damn we have a lot of talent missing the cut

Brannstrom and Formenton by days
Norris by 4 months
Batherson and DeBrincat by less than 2 years

Ranking 5th is not bad considering a lot of our good players are already over 23 (Chabot and Zub too). Time flies and that's also why we need to start competing yesterday.

2. Tim Stützle, C

Puck skills: NHL average

wow, ok

Some of the assessments are head scratchers, but depends on how Pronman sees them. He gave Kleven and Boucher below NHL average skating. In his write up for Kleven he says his mobility isn't amazing but solid for a guy his size. I would lean towards that being average vs below average

Added team ranks, and for the top 10 teams listed their top 5 prospects.

Personally I see 2-5 as interchangeable, Buffalo is clear cut #1, and there's a drop off after 5.

Listing Tim Stutzle's puck skills as average instantly causes the author of that article to lose all credibility. The Athletic needs to dump Wheeler and Pronman.
Eh, Stu isn't particularly flashy with the puck, I think his puck skill is that he can do it at speed. There's not a lot of room for nuance in the way he's laid out the categories so I don't put much weight into them.

Like, skating, well you can be fast wrt to in or accelerate quickly, you can be agile and have great lateral movement or you can be hard to knock off balance, lots of ways to evaluate skating and it's not clear what he's doing or how he weighs different aspects of each category.

Until the Athletic dumps Pronman and Wheeler they will never get my respect.

Both those guys are huge hacks
Athletic casts a wide net, if you don't like those guys there are likely other writers who you might like, such as Mendes, Lebrun, Strang, ect. Different strokes for different folks.
