Kirsanov 6. Turcotte 7.

Every NHL team passed on Kirsanov in the draft, 2 or 3 times. Yet if Blake offered Turcotte to any team for a 2nd rounder, all teams would have made that deal...and I bet most picking in the 20 to 32 range in the first round, would have made that deal. Turcotte has a high floor and his only issue is that he keeps sustaining injuries; that may actually hold him back from reaching his ceiling.

Ranking Faber so low....I guess Pronman overvalues top end offense, over being a stellar, overall defenseman. Pronman does not measure character or a coaches perspective.
Coaches put Faber out in the last minutes of a game, or to shut down the other teams top line. The first 3 or 4 games of the WJC, Faber played mistake free hockey all game.
Was something to behold.
Considering your #Kupari2022Calder tag, what do you think of his opinions on Kupari?

Pornman says Kupari
will be a third liner
Well he tore his ACL
but rehabbed that f***er
When he says he's okay, Pornman didn't buy it
Surely he's not sold yet and Rasmus needs to play

People say he damaged
that the knee isn't the same
They need to see how he rebounds
and not write him off
When he tells them he's as good as new flying up the ice
Don't listen to Pornman, he's busy rubbin' one...

I'm just sitting here watching Rasmus fly around
I really love to watch his flow
No longer rehabbing on the I-R
He's back you stupid Hoe

Pronaman put a lot of weight on the level of NHL contributions a team has received from their U23 players. Vilardi came in #5 on Pronman’s ranking which really lowered the Kings rankings. If Vilardi had been more consistent last year and been ranked as the Kings #1 U23, the Kings would have been higher ranked overall. Vilardi graduates from Pronman’s list next year so, it’s going to fall to Kupari and Akil Thomas to prop up rankings. And since they are both likely to play the majority of the season in the AHL, the Kings could fall in Pronman’s rankings.

Also since Kupari has only played 6 NHL games to date, that lowered the Kings ranking too.

We shouldn't care too much about this ranking, TBH. Because we have some NHL talent like Doughty, Kopitar, etc., to the point where even up to last year we were dealing some away (Carter), we deliberately slow-roll bringing in our talent. The only real guy we drafted high and tried to play was Vilardi, with a couple of guys just debuting just this year. Everyone knows rushing your future talent is something bad and something only desperate teams do.

So if we don't rank as high as say, Buffalo, that's a good thing. We all know how well it's going over there. When was the last time they sniffed the Cup and even when close, how long did it last? If I recall, they were one and done in the Final. Not exactly Kings' hockey there...

I can't believe anyone would rank Kirsanov, higher than Turcotte. I think Kim Nousianen should be higher than Kirsanov....what 19 / 20 year old defenseman can out up 27 pts in Liiga? Frigging impressive...but not as impressive as how many sponsors Kalpa has....I bet their marketing person would sell the Kalpa logo spot, for an advertising premium....sheesh.

Maybe Kim can get his own sponsor on the tip of his skates?
Or across the front of his visor? (like Talladega Nights Ricky Bobby's cars' windshield)
Or stitch a sponsor into his number 39.

To his credit, Pronman has always been the most prominent backer of Fagemo, even ahead of most Kings fans. I wonder if his support of Fagemo pays off after this fantastic camp Fagemo has had so far.

As soon are you're drafted, they talk of your flaws
But Pornman talks you up no hums and haws
You score so many goals that you're breaking laws
A Samuel Fagemo is something to see

This is what I had posted in the mainboard version:

"I'd say you can add Kaliyev, Kupari, and Durzi to Bjornfot, Anderson, and Vilardi as graduates. I'd also say Helenius and Chromiak, and to a lesser degree Simontaival and Jordan Spence are risers, not really many fallers, maybe Fagemo a slot or two. Andre Lee and Alex Laferriere are good deep surprises. So to me it looks like this:

Quinton Byfield
Brandt Clarke
Alex Turcotte
Brock Faber
Franceso Pinelli
Helge Grans
Sammy Fagemo
Tyler Madden
Akil Thomas
Martin Chromiak

HM: Jordan Spence, Kim Nousiainen, Kirill Kirsanov, Samuel Helenius, Simontaival, Parik, who I've seen high on people's lists.

But admittedly I'm higher on Faber and Fagemo than most. "

I'd maybe even drop Madden behind Thomas Chromiak and Helenius.

don't know if you guys saw any of the reign game tonite , had both games streaming on my computers , but spence is starting to do his makar impersonation more and more. As he gets more confidence he could be a great find , he was controlling the play whenever on ice if he had more talented wingers around him he could have had more points as he has great vision to go with IQ and awesome skating

I didn't subscribe to AHL TV this season, so I haven't had the opportunity to see anything but highlights, but what's the knock on Spence? Is it simply size and strength which was the scouting report prior to his draft? He's obviously not going to grow in height, but how does he look in puck and board battles? These young right-handers coming up are going to make Roy and Walker available to package for an upgrade somewhere.

I'm not aware that there is or ever has been "a knock" on him.

I've only ever heard people praise him and he's been pretty darn good everywhere he's played and he keeps getting stronger and stronger.

From what I remember and see:
- Size issues
- He sort of rose up as a rookie, and so there may be less "volume of data/observations" on him
- Though skilled, he's never been "dominant"

So let me rephrase, what does he need to improve upon to make the Kings in the next year or two? Just reading reports seems to me that Spence and Grans are the two best defenseman in Ontario. And that's pretty exciting if true.

He's about to turn 21 in February. He's not tiny but he's not big. I'm sure they've got him on a program to improve his strength and conditioning etc... I think he just has to keep showing up and doing what he does. Him making the team will probably have more to do with the status of Doughty, Clarke, Faber, Grans etc etc etc

One of his 'issues' was just outright speed. He's super agile, but was never a burner, so his size could be a detriment both for defending and when getting forechecked (not much escapability). But he appears to be ironing that issue out judging by his AHL games.

Like Jesse says I have to think it's just a longer-term "get bigger and faster to deal with pros" thing.

Curious if anyone else followed Pronman's series of "re-drafting" articles from last October where he re-ranked the players in the 2017-2020 drafts based on how they've developed since the drafts?

Putting it all together from a Kings perspective, he had all of the first-rounders going later than where they were taken (with Bjornfoot and Andersson falling to the second round), but a number of later round picks going higher (including Kaliyev and Fagemo moving up to the first round).

Overall he seems to view those drafts as yielding a surplus of prospects who he expects will or may have NHL careers as middle-of-the-lineup players, but only two (Byfield and Kaliyev) that he expects to be top-of-the-lineup (with Fagemo on the bubble). None was considered elite or sure-fire all-star caliber. Strangely Chromiak wasn't even mentioned.

Not sure whether his take is realistic or too pessimistic.

Can he play the left side? I say bring him up and pair him with Roy at some point this season.
