So because he gets big minutes on the PK he can’t play a couple of minutes on the PP? He has a good motor, I’m sure he’d be fine. Hyman has been doing both and isnt as offensively gifted as Kap. Babcock has also been using Marner for both so not sure what you mean by him being better suited to be a PK specialist when we have other players who do both (PK & PP) ?Because he is better suited for big minutes on the PK. It really is that simply.
Leivo. He will not be for long and they need a player to stand net front and none of the smurfs can do it.
He is best suited for the PK. Is that hard to understand as well as the first shift after the power play we need defensive responsibly players to ice a line that will not get scored on.So because he gets big minutes on the PK he can’t play a couple of minutes on the PP? **** yeah! The boys played a dominant game, controlled that one start to finish, made the Pens look like scrubs. Probably our best game of the season?
A complete reversal of the last time these teams played.
Of course Penguins are like the Leafs, not very good at home.
I hate the lack of PPs as much as the next guy, but Leafs are also dead last in PIMs per game. It does seem to be going both ways, for whatever reason there are just less penalties called in Leafs games.Last time they played, the Leafs again led every period in posession and scoring chances but didn't get any bounces.
Both goalies played really well but Murray stood on his head to steal the game and the refs were brutal (what should have been a 4 min PP as Hyman almost lost an eye in the middle of the ice the prime example of the refs needing white canes out there.)
This time out was more definitive for sure but it wasn't like the Pens rolled over us like we did to them at home.
Final scoring chance numbers from that game were:
33-23 Toronto
HD chances: 14-10 Toronto
Pens had the edge in Powerplays 2-1
The victory in the second game,
Scoring chances: 31-24 Toronto
HD chances: 12-8 Toronto
Pens had the edge in powerplays 5-3
Big differences were that Murray didn't stand on his head to steal anything while Anderson continued his strong play, our guys finished some of their chances/got bounces and our D completely shut down their big guns worse than last time out.
The PK was also unreal as the refs were no better than the first game but I'm getting used to what seems to be Torontos complete lack of respect from officials. That probably grows in time as the core gets older but it's a little frustrating.
I mean, can anyone figure out why on earth the Leafs are tied with Anaheim for dead last in PP time per game? Anaheim are one of the most brutal possession teams in the league so it makes sense for them but the Leafs? A solid posession team near the top of the league in scoring chances/game?
Off topic a bit I know but its just getting stupid now.
/rant over.

I'm not saying it's fair, the Leafs probably should have drawn a few more PPs, but it isn't a major lack of respect from the refs.
I suppose the stat I posted is a tad misleading because PIMs also takes into account majors and misconducts. The Leafs don't fight and haven't had any significant penalties/misconducts yet. I don't know where to find minors taken vs minors drawn, would give you a better sense of things. Regardless it seems like most games are 1-3 PPs for the other team and 1-2 for Leafs. So just our luck that we keep getting "let em play" refs when we are one of the best teams at special teams?
Dammit.
Still think there should more of a separation due to the style of our play but its early still.

I agree it isn't ideal, I just want to watch our PP torch teams!
Thank you, so the Leafs have taken the second fewest minor penalties in the league (with only one major). Looking further we are 27th in the League in PP opportunities with 39, and we have been shorthanded 40 times (25th in the league).
Any idea how this compares with our chances for/against per year.Thank you, so the Leafs have taken the second fewest minor penalties in the league (with only one major). Makes me wish I complained less about our PP opportunities, next time I'm doing less research.
Someone to stand in front of the net? Leivo is a big guy. You said none of the smurfs could do it...?He is already on the PP...
I’m brining up Marner because he plays both PK and on the PP. Kapanen is a versatile player. Is that hard to understand? Your point was Kapanen needs to be a PK specialist. My point is he can do both. That’s all.He is best suited for the PK. Hyman will not be on the pp when Mathews returns or when we sign Nylander. I have no doubt Kapanen can play on the Power Play and he might get that opportunity but not right now. You make it seem that Hyman has been playing a ton of PP minutes which is not true, and Why you are bringing up Marner is beyond me.
I never said he needs to be a pk specialist. At this point in time he needs to be either on the pk or pp and not both in my opinion. Still learning the game at the NHL level. His best asset is his skating and it is best used on the PK in my opinion.I’m brining up Marner because he plays both PK and on the PP. Kapanen is a versatile player. Is that hard to understand? Levio is already on the PP and is the half wall guy. Hyman is better suited for the screen guy.Someone to stand in front of the net? Leivo is a big guy. You said none of the smurfs could do it...?
