We're going to dominate Nashville

In Corsi....

After the first period. IN the first period shots will be about 20-4 for Nashville, but Edmonton will close the gap being down 3-4 goals. It all part of the process.

Also, Nashville will score their first 2 goals on the first three shots, so the Fenwick will look okay as well even though there will only be about 6 fenwick events.

@TSNRyanRishaug: Justin Schultz will likely be a healthy scratch today on the heels of his benching last game.

@TSNRyanRishaug: Oscar Klefbom will draw in tonight against Preds.

@TSNRyanRishaug: Eakins likely to send a message today healthy scratching Justin Schultz and Martin Marincin. Aulie/ Klefbom would come in. See shortly.

And that message is "I'm an idiot", Marincin is the new Yakupov.

Seriously, Marincin sits and nikitin is still playing?

Also where was this message to Schultz before we went on a 7 game losing streak, it's not like he's suddenly been worse, he's been horrid all season.

Nashville needs centers in the off season they sign three to bargain FA contracts feeling that even if one does not work out they have others to fill the gap.

The Oilers need centers in the off season, they go out and get soft wingers and lousy Dmen who are way over priced.

MacT turned DEBACLE up to 11.

You guys have simply not figured out why MacT likes eakins so much. His benchings are just as idiotic as what MacT used to do. Can't sit Nikitin it will make the new boss look bad. Can't sit Ferentz even though he stinks, we sat petry once but better not again even though he is a black hole of minus.

I'd say he has suddenly been worse to be honest. Well not suddenly, but I thought his defense game had made some strides earlier in the season and it has subsequently gone off the rails. They tried playing him through it, like is appropriate for a 3rd year player and the only guy who can put up points on your back end. Now they are going for a different tact.

Nikitin just sat out a game as a healthy scratch. Honestly I haven't seen enough out of Marincin so far this year to be concerned about him being a healthy scratch. He was not good in that Dallas game. The only guy who right now shouldn't be worried about being scratched should be Fayne.

To the game... at some point the Oilers are going to luck out a win against a Western conference team. They'll face some awful goaltending performance, or a team that just lays a complete egg OR even the Oilers playing a good gamea. It'll happen eventually... maybe not tonight lol.

Nooo, don't say that. Otherwise, we'll have to hear about corsi moral victories by Eakins again.

You're confusing two things.

Moral victories
and
Corsi

That said, people are forgetting that 5v5 play, per se, is not the problem.

The three biggest problems are a) an anemic power play, b) an unreliable defensive system that doesn't protect the low slot, and c) bad goaltending.

Corsi, on its own (along with fenwick), is fairly reliable at determining the standings. The Oilers' problems are listed above, and also over represented by the fact that their schedule has been both home-heavy and also against middling or weaker opponents thus far.

So they're still likely at about low-mid 20s in Corsi/Fenwick, and they have 3 major issues which aren't reflected in their corsi/fenwick levels.

I suspect that Dellow is working his ass off to figure out a remedy for that d-zone, low slot coverage hole. But what it boils down to is that Eakins' 5v5 offensive scheme is about the only issue his coaching has improved. And even then, there's a strong argument to be made that personnel upgrades have made that difference most palpable more than any coaching has.

Preach!
Kind of a recurring theme on here, they read the boards and make a move we appreciate.. then **** it up. They create a line we like, then they use it for 2 shifts. They bench, recall and play strange guys JUST LIKE MACT used to do. It is almost like MacT is still behind the bench. hmm
Lately I have had more bleeped out words.. probably won't change for a while.

So Justin Schultz get HEALTHY SCRATCHED, a guy that's been averaging 22 minutes/game and has been one of the golden children for so long, and that's not a big deal but scratching Marincin is?

Marincin is the "can do no wrong" darling of vocal fans on twitter and around here.

Schultz has been bad long enough that finally sending him to the press box feels more like putting down a sick dog than actually achieving something meaningful.

Here is the huge problem for any team but especially for the oilers, their play 5v5 or on special teams simply does not carry forward from year to year. In the past, all during the suckage years we have had years in which were good on 5v5 with terrible specials, years where we were terrible 5v5 and good on specials and everything in between.

The key fact is almost universally we are never decent in both categories.
