If we have a season where every rookie has a phenomenal season, every player under 27 hits a career-high, and every player over 27 has a "typical" season with nobody having an off-year and 11 players playing 75+ games it will indeed be something to talk about.

It happened for Vegas...

Players who were under utilized on their previous teams, collected from around the NHL and given a chance in bigger roles.

How exactly is any of that similar to Vancouver? This team existed in 2017-18 and was terrible. Why would they magically be great one year later?

Lol.

Vadim Shipachyov was a total bust for Vegas. So was garrison. So were a lot of players. What they did which we won't do, is change things on the fly and give themselves a lot of options.

Plus they got absurdly lucky, yes.

But sure, banking on us to be Vegas that makes sense.

Uses the most drastic outlier team in the past 50 years as justification for one’s wild hallucinations.

Makes sense.

I think the Oilers are going to ride and die on their defenseman. If they see good seasons from Klefbomb, Larsson, and Nurse, they have a chance at playoffs. Their forward corps is pretty good and obviously, McDavid is the best player in the league.

--Gaudette, Pettersson, Demko and probably Dahlen all shine at training camp, but none make the team over returning or recently signed vets. Juolevi underwhelms, is sent to Utica. Is unimpressive in injury callups.

Well, already flubbed that one. Pettersson's the only one showing NHL form in the preseason.

MAN this sucks.

*edit* Oh wait. Another thing I failed to predict: Goldobin didn't come close to busting his ass. He'll probably still be here next week, though.

Canucks have 'below-average' goaltending and a blueline that surely ranks in the bottom three in the NHL. So there's no way they can win with it. I thought there was a chance the Canucks could reach 80 points, but now I'm not very confident. It's likely another 'Groundhog Day' year of 70-75 points.

They had better pray that some of the kids here and in Utica get people excited before the season is over. Otherwise there could be a slew of empty seats at the Rog before the schedule is half-over.

We will have a good competitive year teasing for a playoff spot IF:

-The team - goaltending, defense - plays like it did for the first 28 gms and last 10 gms of last season.
- Avoid playing like the 40 gms in between.

-PP remains top 10 -this would mean 40 and 6 are productive

-New additions come as advertised and help boost our PK from a 20-something rank and into the top 15.

-We get A LOT of luck with our health.

One thing this team did show last year was battle and a good work rate for those good stretches of play.

We will be finishing last in the conference IF...
Well... you know.

although it is still notionally possible for the canucks and/or their prospects other than pettersson to do something this year, there are absolutely no indicators that this will happen coming out of camp.

the offence looks terrible, the defence looks terrible, and goaltending looks terrible. none of the prospects other than pettersson look ready to contribute at the nhl level this year. pettersson looks nhl ready but does not look ready to move the dial.

so all you can do is completely ignore reality as a temporary blip and project on paper what could happen running contrary to all available real world evidence.

based on that i predict an scf loss in game 6.
