The posts that argue for Byfield to spend time in junior have 100% solid points. My only concern is that he's already dominated junior. He had 82 points in 45 games, was a plus player and was truly a man amongst teens. He can still refine his game and improve in areas mentioned (defensive positioning, faceoffs, etc...) but there ought to be some communication with Sudbury to make sure he's asked to perform a different role besides pure offense (if we draft him).

Reason I'd want him down there is for our current multiple centre prospects/pieces to establish who they are going forward. Unless Byfield hits homeruns left and right in camp, no point him playing next season (which will most likely be a tank season, bottom 10 at best).

Agreed. Let him put on an all-around dominance display and carry team Canada in WJC a la Lafreniere. He needs that bolt in confidence in stepping up in the clutch. Also needs a strong playoff run in the juniors to his resume.

I think he could graduate to a next step, if that was an option between CHL and NHL. His WJC and OHL prospects game showed me he needs more time. I believe he will grow into a high end #1C if he's not rushed. Still young and still developing. I want him to graduate from the OHL and step into a top 6 role and be successful vs play down the NHL lineup.. and change his game from his still developing natural game.

Like idea of him getting 9 games to start year, then hopefully sticks until WJHC, then back to junior.

I think under normal circumstances L.Brown forces his way into the lineup shortly after openi g night but if the AHL doesn't play who knows what will happen.

Chabot-Zaitsev
Wolanin-Zub
Brannstrom-Jaros

With Boro gone Jaros is given a shot at being the new physical guy paired with Brannstrom to help offset his lack of pressence in front of the net.

Hogberg

I fear Nilsson won't be healthy, the fact that there are still questions about his health scares me.

The team that starts the season won't be the same team that ends the season, I expect a few more changes next yr. Of course this could easily change if the Sens go shopping for free agents, they need a 4th line enforcer type. Not sure how well this lineup would do in the AHL. With the departure of Ryan they desperately need to find a better replacement on RW.

To Start the Season:
Tkachuk - White - Batherson
Duclair - Tierny - C. Brown
Balcers - Anisimov - Hawryluk
Paul - Chlapik - ??? (Sabourin/NHL vet)

Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Reilly
Englund - Jaros/Zub

Nilsson - Hogberg - PD could be shopping for a new #1 goalie if Nilsson isn't fully recovered.

- I expect that Reilly will be traded by the trade deadline & replaced by Zub if not sooner.
- I expect that Tierny & Anisimov should both be traded by the deadline & replaced by L. Brown & Norris.
- I expect that Balcers could also be traded or demoted & replaced by Formenton.

No way DJ gives White defensive starts or top line matchup’s. how on earth do you project him as a 3C with those responsible wingers.

Are you aware that White is one of our weakest centers for puck possession or faceoffs ? he will get “caved in” in your roll and thankfully our coach knows better.

Here is what I project, with the placeholder for forward, defence and goaltender to acquire a High Cap hit low Salary UFA or Trade to reach the Cap Floor.

Tkachuk - Tierney - Batherson
Duclair - Norris - C. Brown
Balcers - Anisimov - White
Paul - Chlapik - Hawryluk
L.Brown - High Cap hit low Salary UFA or Trade

Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Reilly
Brannstrom - Jaros/Zub
High Cap hit low Salary UFA or Trade

Nilsson - Hogberg

I am not sure how they get to the cap floor but this is what I expect/hope for. I think whoever they draft this year would benefit from another season developing as they lost so much development time last season. This is still the youngest team in the NHL. I think the forwards are fine but they need another top pair D man, that back end is really bad. I mean if they give Pietrangelo 7 × 11 they probably get to the floor, it solves the leadership problem too. I doubt he signs here but if the sens offer him the most money maybe there is a chance? Back load the contract so it doesnt get smoked by escrow and that works for cheap skate Melnyk.

Norris L. Brown C. Brown
Balcers Tierney Duclair
Paul Chlapik Formenton
Anisimov Hawryluk

1. I like the line-up but I don't see us having that many kids in at the same time. Just not the way Ottawa seems to operate.

2. Some team that is far closer to contention than us will give Alex Pietrangelo the money he's looking for.

I think you're probably right about both, I didnt bother including Pietrangelo i know its a pipe dream. Its just the most ideal way to get to the floor.

In regards to the forwards if there is no AHL then I do think those are the 14 players they carry up front. Anisimov will get injured at some point so I could see that lineup happen. If everyone is healthy id be shocked to ever see Norris, L. Brown and Balcers all in the lineup at the same time. I think Batherson and Formenton become staples.

Behind you, look out
I am too lazy but someone should make a poll to see where we as a group rank each position.
Do it again after the draft and FA day and see if there is any difference.

No way DJ gives White defensive starts or top line matchup’s. how on earth do you project him as a 3C with those responsible wingers.

Are you aware that White is one of our weakest centers for puck possession or faceoffs ? he will get “caved in” in your roll and thankfully our coach knows better.

So a couple points;

1. Never said the 3rd line would be a matchup line or that it would be primarily defensive starts. I don't think we have anyone who fits the mold of defensive specialist so we will likely have to spread things out until someone establishes themselves in that role.

2. Responsible wingers are usually considered beneficial for young centers. Would you prefer we place him with defensive liabilities? I think Brown and Formenton add some grit that can hopefully rub off on White as he did bring that element in college.

3. What do you mean by weakest centers in terms of puck possession? Is this your personal assesment or are you basing on any particular metric? Typically CF is used as a proxi for possession and he lead regular center in that last year. While usage and deployment may be factors, there really is no clear favourutes remaining on the team.

4. His faceoff % was 47.4 which when compared with pageau who was the best on the team woukd mean 1 extra loss per game. While it would certainly be nice if he was above 50% he isn't a liability at the dot. In fact, if you take a more rigourous approach to evaluating faceoff prowess and look at his elo ratings which account for the faceoff ability of the players they square off against, White actually does better than Tierney and Anisimov at the dot.

It will be interesting to see how we reach the floor, i think we end up trading for guys like Stepan and/or Russel, might need both depending on the cost of resigning the RFA

Arizona has less money than Ottawa, they dont have a T.V deal like the sens do. I dont see them trading Stepan. Russell sure that makes sense to me. Could be a good replacement for Hainsey. Maybe they get a late pick in 2022 with him to take him.

Unfortunately I think it’s 50/50 that Hainsey is back. DJ is pushing for him.

I really feel like a big part of the reason we got norris is to play with brady. I hope we use this draft on 2 fwds so we can eventually have a top 6 of:

Stutzle - Perfetti - batherson
Chuck - norris - duclair
