I have never seen a guy score so quickly after picking up his stick. Nice pass and goal by Ovi.

Malkin ran circles around our team before that goal. We looked tired and just watched. The Dmen as usual, not even trying to clear the crease. I thought Neuvy played well.

Before Carrick got knocked down, he played Cin tough who of course was pissed about it.

Its amazing how different we are against different opponents. We get up for Pitt, and..... the playoffs. It sucks how much regular season games have lost their luster with all the crackdown on physical play killing any and almost all rivalries.

Urbum should've been playing instead of Carrick - bigger, stronger, rested...

That's been the story for what...40 years now?

The moral victory spiel died a few seasons ago

It died several deaths over the years.

What's getting old is blaming the refs and bad luck. EVERY team has good and bad luck. It's just confirmation bias (and intentional spin, if you're an apologist or Locker) to complain about bad "puck luck" all the time. NO team has that much bad luck vs good luck over a season, nevermind 40 of them. If we watched every game objectively looking for our GOOD luck, we might see it differently.

Then there's the ref issue. I think it was DH who got the team to stop thinking about the bad calls and stop reacting to them. Let the coach and the captain do that. For a few years as the team was coming up you could see the frustration and then the let down happening as if they were thinking "here we go again" after every bad call. And then disaster strikes, as expected, because "bad breaks/calls".

That is creeping in again. The players need to STOP treating the penalties as anything more than a change in the gameplan during the flow of the game, and remove the emotional element. Focus on the kill, or in the case of the PP don't think of it as "finally here's our chance, better not blow it" think of it simply as a job that needs to get done.

tl;dr: luck evens out for all teams and bad calls happen so get over it, do your jobs and everyone stop making excuses

MoJo is such an amazing passer. Two beautiful assists. Wow.

When he is focusing on a target, yes. When he's got the puck and isn't sure what to do he just blindly flings it somewhere. This happens too much.

From Japers Rink-

#Caps 5v5 close FF% with Erskine/Carrick on ice last night: 28.6%. #Caps 5v5 close FF% with Erskine/Carrick off ice last night: 56.9%.

That's almost not even possible, Erskines finished and Carricks not even close to being ready to play in the league. I have no idea how you could watch Carrick and believe he belongs

Nice to see Laich look like an NHL player for one game

Based on comments I've heard from players/coaches (Calle), they're more concerned about denying the pass than clearing the crease. I don't like the strategy myself. Usually they're just helping screen their own goalie (like Carlson last night).

Speaking of Calle, does anyone else think listening to his in game interviews that he has absolutely no clue what the **** he is doing? Seriously

He clearly knows the game of hockey, but he sure does come off as pretty goofy in interviews. Not sure if it's by design, or that's just his personality.

I am starting to think the stick manufacturers are going back to the cheap quality sticks of a few years ago to make a few extra dollars

I think its more the second language thing.

I think he's been here more than long enough speaking English. To me, he seems like a joker, which when speaking behind the bench, in-game, comes off as less than professional and intelligent. We're expecting some coaching "meat" from those interviews and he's delivering one-liners. Not a big deal to me still. I'm confident he knows how NHL D should play.

20 years from now, ppl are going to look back at this roster and be in utter shocked that a team was desperate enough to pair Erskine and Carrick together.

I wonder what the others guys feel about that pair. I know they're too professional to say anything but they must hold their breath when they are on the ice

Give it 3 years and Erskine will be our D coach.
