Yep, there is game going here...

Lines: I don't know, and I don't care as long as handiness is proper.

Edit: Game is at 8 PM

Curious to see how they come out tonight. Big televised game against a "rival" team that's now in our division on the second game of a back to back. Seems like the kind of game they normally lay down and die in, hopefully it'll be a fun game.

Penguins recalled Leblond, Leblond is the guy who jumped MoJo his rookie season when the Capitals were stomping the Devils 7-2....

Wow, some of you have a fantastic memory... I totally didn't remember that.

I just hope we don't get embarrassed, this is a tired bunch of players, second of back to back and 5th in 7 days... and now we have to face rested Pittsburgh... @Pejorative Sluredschedule :shakehead

this is why the caps the caps got neuvirth's name on a contract. its true that grubauer has taken full advantage of the opening to jump the line, but keeping neuvirth was about holtby and his reliability as a young player. if neuvirth has a good game tonight, win or lose, and grubauer gets knicked in the next game, I'd suggest that its neuvirth that gets the games and not holtby.

''Update: Caps will hold 1045 am team meeting at CONSOL and 11:30 optional skate Players and Adam Oates will address media after the meeting''

This was posted last night on Sharks board.

Anyone know what this was about?

The Caps got Neuvy's name on a contract so they could pay him $2.5M to play twice in twenty games?

PR staff relaying media availability of players and coach before a nationally televised game. I would guess that team meetings are regularly held before optional skates to go over gameplan and such.

Any chance, that for one shift, we could see Erat on Nick's right and Wilson on Nick's left? Just one shift? I realize that would entail: bringing Erat out of the press box, putting Erat on his correct side for the first time, screwing up Wilson's handiness for a shift, knocking Brouwer out of the top six, knocking Laich out of the top six.

So that's a "no", right?

Could we at least try Wilson in the top six for one fleeting, capsizing moment?

Still not sure what Wilson has shown to warrant him getting a look in the top six right now.
He hasn't shown anything to deserve a place in the Top 6 to me, but neither has Laich and Brouwer is a third liner in my mind. Given where we are in the standings I wouldn't risk giving Wilson a chance on the top 6 unless we're running away with a game.

He hasn't really shown anything, but what is he expected to show on a line with Volpatti and Beagle. If we all remember early in Backstrom's rookie year, he was playing wing, centering the fourth line. He wasn't showing much, points wise, while centering Brashear, but IIRC he was playing on the PP and was able to show things to graduate to centering OV and the rest is history.

Part of me wants Brouwer to get thrown out of a game early and for Wilson to skate regularly on the second line. Not that I think he will flourish or flounder, I would just like some viewing time of him on a scoring line. Heck, I would take time on the third with Johansson and Chimera.

I don't know about that. You could see flashes of skill and brilliance, albeit short ones with Backstrom back then, but I'm not seeing those types of flashes with Wilson that say "I've earned a top-6 spot now". That said, I'm certainly on board with him getting a taste.

That is true, we could all see the skill that Backstrom was able to display. I was more talking production outside of the PP points. The problem is that Wilson is not a skill guy. He is a power forward. His flashes are much more subtle. His flashes will be good hits and solid cycling. He will never be a guy to skate down the wing and beat a guy one on one with a move. He needs guys to filter the puck to the net for garbage goals or feed him in a spot to shoot.

Backstrom passed the eye test, offensively, better than Wilson currently is. Wilson has also seen time with Laich, Erat, and Fehr on the 4th line at various points, and he looked no better offensively. Last night's power move to a soft backhand shot was about as good an offensive play as we've seen Wilson provide all year, and those moments are very few and very far between and this one relied on Braun mis-judging the situation. So far he's shown he can hit and he can fight, but we haven't seen anything else from him.

While I get the desire to get Brouwer and/or Laich out of the top six, we have better candidates than Wilson to do so. Namely the team's 2nd leading goal scorer, Joel Ward. It's time we gave Chimera-Backstrom-Ward a shot, with top six minutes and a top six jersey color in practice.
