They played well for the most part. Some wide open shots just didn't find the back of the net. I thought Neuvy made some fine saves but couldn't close the deal. Tough break for him.

Caps got to 3 minutes holding a lead there near the end. That's progress isn't it?

Another example of how Ray Schiro gives GM a daily spanking. GM has an 11 and 16 in the first thanks to trading away a potential franchise goalie. Out of this we have a 4th line bruiser. Schiro has pick 22 and gets one of the best young defensemen in the league.

I have heard people say McPhee will get hired again quickly if fired from here. Let him.

I thought Laich-Grabo-Ovechkin looked good, as did Chimera-Mojo-Ward.

4th line still doesn't generate anything, and the Backstrom line looks pretty bad.

I'm not sure what Beagle brings to this team if he's not PKing. He and Volpatti really need to be regular healthy scratches.

I'm guardedly optimistic after tonight's game. The compete level was high and Brooks Laich looked like a real NHL player again. On the other hand, the only good thing Erskine did was draw Malkin into taking a penalty and Carrick had an uneven game.

I like the way the team is trending overall, but that bottom pairing is brutal.

As possible incidental contact goes, I thought they made the right call. They also made the wrong call in the Montreal game 7 and the wrong call in the Flyers game 7.

Agreed, Latta on that 4th line would be a step up. Beagle is just a very limited player, who are we kidding.

I thought Fehr played very well again, surprised that didn't elevate Backstrom's game.

This is my issue too. He seems to want to give top 3 lines equal time. F that noise. Put out Ovi as much as you can. Thats one thing I liked about Bruce, dude wasn't scared to give that 1st line extra time or double shift Ovi.

Either GM is simply biding his time and has plans for a major coup or he is terribly delusional and thinks this team as constructed will somehow gel and mature. If you really believe the latter then you don't go calling up young defensemen like a revolving door. This is normally done due to injury, we have no significant defenseman injuries. I think it is the former.

I don't think GM is a SC winning GM but I also don't think he is an idiot. He has always had a vision, albeit not always correct in its application. 07-09 was his vision of the Caps as the team of the future and he wanted to hoard his nuts. That vision has clearly changed since then, so I have to believe that he will make a move. If he does not, then he truly is an idiot.

Troy Brouwer is absolutely useless without Mike Ribeiro. Erskine/Carrick are terrible as well, not sure how Oates doesn't see it.
