Rumor: Potential numbers for our new players

I know its super early to speculate, but it'll be fun to try and guess.

McDavid - looks like he's sticking with 97, and I hope he does, that number looks really good on him.

Talbot - wore 33 in NYR, I see no reason for him to change that

Korpikoski- had 28 in Arizona, number is available here, so I think that stays the same

Letestu - has worn 55, 17 and 10 in the past. 17 and 10 are obvious no goes, my guess is he goes back to 55.

Sekera - history with 4, 44, , and 7. I predict he goes with 44, and PRAY TO GOD he breaks the curse of 44. If he does summon blasts from the past, please let it be of the Janne Niinimaa variety

Gryba - Wore 62 for most of his time in Ottawa, also has worn 2. Pakarenin wore 62 in his call ups, so I think he takes 2.

Reinhart - I think he goes with 8. Wore that number with the Oil Kings, and his cups of coffee with NYI.

I agree with all of it, but Reinhart may be interesting. Klefbom has also worn 8 in the past (including OKC), and I can't imagine he stays with 84 forever. Maybe we have an 8 and an 88. I have to think Klefbom gets it if they both want 8 due to seniority.

Korpikoski wore 29 in New York, but he has had 28 internationally as well as in Arizona, so I imagine someone else on the Rangers had 29. I'm with you that he probably sticks with 28.

I hope Sekera goes with 44. It's too good a number to go unused or to be worn by a player at the bottom of the roster (hello Potter).

Yah I'm not a big fan of 84. But I could see him picking something random, maybe 6. Barons players had to have a number under 40 so that may have been a factor. And he wore 7 in Sweden.

I thought it was Musil who wore 6 at the WJC (not that both couldn't have worn the same number) and Klefbom wore 8.

If you're right, and I believe you, then 6 would be a good number for him to switch to. He definitely isn't getting #7.

Considering Pitlick seems to be cursed regardless of his number, maybe we were hoping for some kind of fire-vs-fire curse-cancelling mojo to restore the number to normal.

I would guess so, Klefbom wore #6 in WJC, when same Granberg wore #8.

He has had #6, #7 and #8, but #8 seems to be his preference if available.

I would give Klefbom the #8 and Reinhart #88 if he wants it. One guy is on the team already, the other is not a sure thing (for this upcoming season).

edit: let's just say that I have never seen him not wearing #8 if available, except in the Oilers so far.

Definitely. I don't remember which player it was, but someone we acquired mid-season (maybe Klinkhammer?) was asked what number he wanted, he was told that 25 wasn't available because that was going to be Nurse's number once he turned pro.

Hey, if he plays like ol' Gap-tooth I won't have any problem with him choosing #44 as long as his off-ice dedication to the Oil is more in line with Niinimaa.

Yeah I was going to say he recently wore it for Sweden. He's also worn #6 and #3 for Sweden in the past.
