THIS DATE IN FLYERS' HISTORY: Flyers 4 vs. Islanders 2, April 20, 1987
th
In Game 1 at Philly, Ron Hextall made 26 saves and Tim Kerr (3-0-3), whose first two goals gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead at the 7:15 mark, completed his hat trick with his second PPG when he made the score 4-0 in the second period of the team's 4-2 win. The Islanders ousted Washington around 2:00 a.m. Easter Sunday morning in a four-overtime Game 7 epic in which Kelly Hrudey made an NHL-record 73 saves. Hrudey, however, was replaced after the first period (12 saves, 15 shots) for Billy Smith (7 saves, 8 shots).

Well, I expect a better performance. It may not be a win, but maybe it will be better.

They better play Akeson again, don't play that bum Downie.

And as a team they better freaking show up this time, that was a terrible game last night.

Some players looked a little tentative in game 1.

Playing physicly, on the edge, getting into opponents' heads is what the Flyers are. Berube tried to have them play more contained but they never practiced that kind of game in the regular season.

I think if we want to win this series we need to use giroux as a decoy. Split Voracek and him up, and put voracek with coots and read. That would be our best 2 way line.

I'm willing to give Akeson another shot, he was playing so well until... the incident...

Have to play better this game, Game 1 was ****.

McGinn has done nothing. I think VV would be good at stirring the pot but not be stupid about it. Plus, we'd probably need a PKer.

I hope he's in over Rinaldo.

The Flyers usually lose the first game of the series (4-10 in their past 14). I expect a much better effort and result on Sunday

The shift last night that led to the goal is exactly how they have to play the whole game. Hartnell rocked Mcdonough, and it led to a defensive breakdown for the Rangers. That is how you beat them. You cant just play into their system...hopefully they realize that.

It's a bunch of birthdays on Sunday. We had better win. Forwards need to step the **** up, we need heavier hits on rangers' defense, and we need more shots, from anywhere like Amac's. And our D can't let rangers skate circles around them. Akeson was awesome prior to the mishap, and refs need to Dr it her call them all or none at all.

I'm not sure if it's an Emery thing. They were like that against Boston and Tampa when Emery started. Tentative and not willing to take risks. They were pretty meh in the 3rd against Pittsburgh. Maybe they've lost faith in Emery and are having to play a more controlled, defence minded game? That's what I'm hoping, anyway.

Sam Carchidi ‏@BroadStBull

Mason, alternating with Heeter, now talking to trainer McCrossin about how he feels. If I'm reading body language correctly, he plays Sun.

Mason has been out practicing with some of last night's scratches. Has to be a positive.

Good to hear, but it's going to take more than just Mason in net for us to win game 2

Gotta believe they come out with fire on Sunday. These guys (as the avatar's indicate) are comeback kids. It's almost like they needed to lose that game to win the series...right? I expect G to be kicking ass today and tomorrow in the locker room and get them ready to go on the ice on Sunday. Mason returns. Giroux plays lights out. Olde tyme hockey!

Giroux better kick his own ass for his average play, the bad penalty and not getting anything significant done yesterday. He needs to lead the way!

I'm not convinced Berube knows **** about how to beat the Rangers:

Yesterday is was all about dumping the puck deep because Mc Donagh is so good with the stick:

“Dump the puck into his side, make him get it, bang him.
...Defensively, if we don’t get pucks deep we will lose this series. They've got a lot of guys who are quick and can counter and score. We've got to get pucks deeps. That has to be our mindset from the get-go.â€
(Panaccio)

Today it's the opposite:

"Berube says Flyers will try to skate puck into zone more and have fewer dump ins."

Really? I didn't think Rinaldo did too badly last game, especially in periods 1 and 2.
