The Who is a very strange one for me to rank. I love their style, acumen, and attitude when live, but I don't find their actual songs very interesting/memorable and I find their concepts for albums to be pretty lame in general. I'd consider them better if their albums were more about showing off their more raw and manic side (the way Live at Leeds sounds) rather than this theatrical rock opera stuff (which I don't think has aged well at all), in my opinion.

I also dislike the idea of rating how good something is based on influence, because that's basically just another version of deferring to (cultural) popularity (which is still more or less dictated by the average sensibilities of the masses rather than the most fully developed sensibilities possible), and it doesn't really allow for re-evaluation of these things with the benefit of hindsight.
Millennials. :shakehead
You realize Millenials are people between 26 and 40 years old, right?

I get that Britpop had its day in the sun and that day decidedly isn't now - but I'm surprised at the level of dislike for Blur in here. Parklife is a classic. Do people like Damon Albarn's other project, Gorillaz?

Tbh it's a wash after the first 3 or 4 for me, I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

edit: I've gone and forgotten The Slowdive, Portishead, PJ, The Joy Formidable, and Cocteau Twins. shit this is hard

edit 2: I can't believe I've gone and forgotten all the prog rock bands, Oceansize and Porcupine Tree mainly.

edit 3: I can't believe I included multiple Britpop bands on here but forgot Pulp and also The Verve. And I've forgotten Teenage Fanclub and The Twilight Sad, they're two of my favourite Scottish bands. This is hard.

I consider them better than Blur but still not very good, personally. I actually didn't realize they were connected, so that's interesting.

How much I like them is pretty easy - or at least how much I've liked them averaged over time... but stopping at a top-8 since I'm not sure I've ever listened to a full album of any of the others, so I don't feel like I know much about them outside of possibly some radio hits... the first 7 anyway are the only ones I've ever owned albums from... the Beatles it is more a case of there just being a large enough collection of "radio hits" that I feel more familiar with them than the others I don't rank:

1. Black Sabbath

2. Led Zeppelin

3. Pink Floyd
4. Queen
5. T. Rex

6. The Who
7. The Clash

8. The Beatles

So um looking at these rankings, am I the only person who's bothered to listen to any newer British bands since the late-90s lol outside of the sixth guy to reply?
