They almost got a goal, Markov sneaking down and hitting him with a cross ice pass. He had an open net and it just deflected a bit too much and he couldn't handle it. If teams are going to cover Subban super tight up high then that is the way to go, it will create a gap in the middle so more of a diamond formation will be able to exploit the weaker middle coverage.

As much as Subban's shot is the centerpiece of the PP's success, he's also the problem when it gets to puck zone entry and hesitation at the blue line. He should skate in a straight line and deke if necessary and go deep in the zone. He is strong and talented enough to do this. He should not hold back in these situations. He often slows down or tries an impossible pass near the blue line as the offense is catching up, being alreay covered.

Strange Idea I had. . .

Put Subban at forward on the PP.

When you first hear that, the first thing you think of is "what"? "That's stupid." But think about it for a minute, Subban blasting his shots from the FO circle instead of the blue line, the goalie wouldn't stans a chance! It would still have 3 forwards and 2 defencemen, but you'd have 4 guys low with one guy high(Markov) to retrieve the puck and distribute/make plays to the one-timers(Subban/Pacioretty), A guy in front of the net(Eller) and a guy down low close to the goal line(Galchenyuk) to make seam passes and try to catch the goalie off guard.

Another idea. . .

Use Galchenyuk as a rover type who just skates around the O-zone Receiving passes and distributing the puck while always moving.

The Canadiens should be thankful their power play performance has a reflection on this series.

Habs coaches have a different opinion on what the power play does for their team. Check it out:

http://alongtheboards.com/2015/04/montreal-canadiens-power-play-woes-continue-game-4/

This article - which is really poorly written - doesn't contain a single comment from any of the coaches, so how is it possible that your "teaser" for the article says "Habs coaches have a different opinion on what the power play does for their team?"

I thought the biggest problem was entries in game 3. They seem to move it around okay once they setup, but the entries were hopeless in game 3.

Two year chronic issue...
No speed whatsoever on zone entry.
One of our best players for gaining the zone and not getting outmuscled is Eller but...
Between very poor face off percentages and very poor zone entries we kill about 10%. :help:
We must have one of the very lowest zone time % in the league.
Teams get super aggressive with us because of our poor puck handling.
It is frustrating to know this coach will not fix it...

The Montreal forwards are unable to make good passes and are unable to retrieve the puck from the corners to setup. DD is the best play making forward on the PP but is small therefore gets neutralized. Habs need skill more skilled forwards period.

Sounds great but the opposition is guarding the blue line! Like a wall so the pass and or drop pass is used to shift the D and create a breach in the D. In the playoffs guys are more active on the PK making the game harder for the opposition.

I really miss kovalev on the right half wall. Also, he could gain zone entry by himself.

I think I took his abilities on the PP for granted.

I really wish Therrien would take Desharnais off the PP.. just so I could see which player you guys would start complaining about next when the dump and chase Powerplay doesn't work.

There is a possibility that the PP would get better. Couldn't hurt to try.

I agree completely. I would use 3 defensemen. Markov and Petry on the point. Subban on the left side in the OVI shooting spot. Use Pleckanec and Gallagher as the other 2 forwards. Subbans shot needs to be closer to the net and 3 d will allow more rotation back there to confuse the PK a bit. Cant be any worse?

Sorry guys but Subban as forward on the PP is ridiculous. Subban's tool is the slapshot. He won't have time to shoot sweet slapshots on net if he isn't at the blueline (were he has a much greater chance of being left alone with the puck for a second or two).

One of 2 things happens if you move Subban, either he has time a la Ovechkin or Cammalarei (spelling) or the attention he gets gives more time and space to the guys on the point.

Don't dismiss it so easily its not like its working with him on the point.

This team's powerplay and offensive blackholeness will continue to persist as long as the baffoons coaching are still behind the bench. It's as simple as that. There's no need to be in denial anymore. How many years of Price's, Subban's and Pac's prime will we have to waste before we realize that?

Everyone kept saying how playoffs will show what this team will be capable of doing. And here we are, sitting dead-last in the power-play department once again. Nothing changes. The same team with the same brain-dead coach doing the same mistakes over and over again. If Price isn't playing on his head, we get to witness putrid losses like the one tonight.

Subban should play the side wall like Kovalev did, like ovy does, lije Stamkos does. But no, idiot Therrien keeps putting out the same crap and DD what a frigging joke this management group is.

Insert Parenteau and Gonchar, and be opportunistic... They want to score the perfect goal. Also score the first goal would help too.

Why is Emelin not on the PP? Guy has a really heavy shot and being able to have some time to shoot he'll put it on net.

This team is a disaster.
