Off the top of my head;

Chris Chelios: He's a Blackhawk to me, but won Cups in Montreal and Detroit. Didn't win one in Chicago.

Ray Bourque: A Bruin, but won a Cup with Colorado. Zero Cups in Boston.

Brett Hull: I think everyone sees him as a Blue, but won Cups in Dallas and Detroit. Never won in St. Louis.

Steve Larmer: A Blackhawk to me, but won the Cup in New York. Never won one in Chicago.

Who else?

Andreychuk with TB. He spent a lot of his career in BUF and had his best years in TOR.

Mark Recchi with BOS and CAR. He's a Flyer or Penguin.

Brad Richards with CHI.

Denis Savard with MTL.

Luc Robitaille won his only Cup with DET.

Maybe Gilmour with CGY? Although after TOR, that may be the team people associate him with the most.

Do people associate Hossa more with OTT or CHI at this point?

What about Ron Francis?

What about Ron Francis?

The general rule of thumb for me is the team you played the most games for is the team most will associate you with.

With Francis he had over 1000 games with the Hartford/Carolina franchise, but if you want to split the Whalers and Hurricanes into separate categories, the numbers get a little loser.

Hartford - 714
Pittsburgh - 533
Carolina - 472

Doug Weight with the Carolina Hurricanes
Seems like an easy answer. Older fans would associate Weight with the Oilers, while modern fans would associate him as a Blue. Most fans won’t even remember he was a Hurricane

I think Tomas Kaberle with Bruins and Kimmo Timonen with Blackhawks are resent ones that can´t easily be associated to those teams.

I know that Neal Broten was more important with Devils, but for me he is one of the first players that comes to mind from North Stars/Stars.

There seems to be multiple cases here pointing back at the 2002 red wings.

I'll continue on that theme and say it was kinda strange to see hasek win the cup in that uniform.

"Cowboy" Bill Flett won a cup with the Flyers, I see him more as a King
Ted Harris won a cup with the Flyers in 74-75, see him as a Canadien.

If it means anything, my immediate reaction was “Mark Recchi as a Hurricane”, meaning even I forgot about Weight.

Strange choice. Bill Guerin is not really known for a particular team, but he spent considerably more time in New Jersey than any other place. Maybe he had his best seasons in Boston/Dallas, but only spent 2 and 3 seasons respectively with those teams. As opposed to 7 seasons with New Jersey. Guerin in Pittsburgh fits this thread better IMO.

Craig MacTavish winning as a Ranger was pretty random despite the many former Oilers in that team. Or Tomas Sandström and Fredrik Olausson with the Red Wings. Oleg Tverdovsky with the Devils and with the Hurricanes.

Brian Bellows on Montreal, ditto Denis Savard.

Kent Nilsson on the Oilers

Quick question, but is Danny Gare's name on the Cup from 1987? He played 18 games on the Oilers that year, no playoffs, up until February. I am guessing he announced his retirement at that time? Or was injured and then did it in the summer perhaps? Can't remember.

Tomas Kaberle on the Bruins
