If he's so great, how come NHL network only ranked him at #17?
There's a tendency here to overrate Flyer players, not that any other fan base demonstrates "homer" tendencies.
Ghost made great strides last year, but the Penguins also exposed his limitations (this is where Striiker comes up with his list of excuses, top players don't need excuses by definition)
Ghost is a top PP QB, he's a good ES defenseman whose size will limit him, especially if he never regains the unearthly burst of his rookie year (he's not an elite straight line skater). If he continues to pay attention to detail, I can see him approaching the top ten in a couple years, but he needs to have that big playoff series to be mentioned with the big boys.
Ghost is a better player than Provorov right now due to his PP excellence, but Provorov has more upside, Provorov has a chance to be a legitimate top ten, even top five defenseman down the road, a 25 minute a night guy who anchors the team in the playoffs.
Sanheim and Myers also have more upside than Ghost but are too far away from knowing if they'll ever approach that ceiling. Sanheim is faster and has the size to be a two way defenseman, though he doesn't have Ghost's offensive instincts and may never develop them. Myers has a chance to be really special if he stays healthy, the size and skills to be dominant everywhere on the ice.
What makes Ghost special is he's elite on the power play, like Giroux, and that's hard to replace, he's clearly better than Karlsson, who dominates him at 5x5, so it's not just skill, but also instinct. Like Giroux, the extra time and space on the power play lets him do things he can't do as easily 5x5.
