I'm confused by the argument that "he was scratched in the playoffs."
So? There are always going to be players that are scratched for the playoffs. He knows he's a depth player who is going to be in the press box when the team is fully healthy, and he doesn't put up a fuss about it. He's also capable of filling in short-term when there are injuries. How is it bad to have a player like that on a low cap hit contract?
I'd rather have prospects get development time actually playing down in the AHL then sitting in the press box. Rodrigues isn't a prospect. He's not going to lose out on development time by watching from the press box most nights. He's basically the forward equivalent to Ruhwedel. Not exciting, but good to have when the team needs an injury replacement last minute.
