Seems that someone's unleashed the dogs. Reminds me a bit of what happened with Neal; nothing for years but then all of a sudden everyone knew he was a problem all along. It's interesting in the sense that they've supposedly been keeping mostly quiet about this for a good while and now it appears they can't be bothered anymore.

Also, because I'm a Nosy Nellie, what's the deal with this "noted history" business between Malkin and Adams? That Mackey guy gave the impression it was common knowledge. What have I missed? I mean, superficially, it doesn't surprise me that they don't appear to be BFFs but...

the same media constantly pumping his tires? can't say I'm optimistic.

Something is amiss.

All we have heard from the media is how he is such a leader and ****.... now he is a snitch that the locker room would be doing backflips if he left.... but that's old news?

I don't... what?

Edit:

Looks like he sent DP into the boards:

Thursday's practice didn't lack for physicality. During power-play work, penalty killer Craig Adams delivered hits on Evgeni Malkin and defenseman Derrick Pouliot, the latter sending Pouliot crashing hard into the boards.

Yep.
This'll be on JR and the coaching staff.
I know JR won't have a problem with losing him, it's more the coaching staff i'm worried about. Almost like a "i wish this teams young core cared as much as Craig does" mentality. If that is still there it'll be up to JR to rectify the situation. Getting another forward which pushes Adams to the press box or including him in a deal.

Which goes back to why he's been acting like this. He's trying to show both the coaching staff and JR something. He either really wants to stay or really wants out.

I almost feel like this isn't about trying to show how valuable he is. If what vikingGoalie said is true, I can't believe that Adams doesn't have some kind of extra security. Maybe he knows that the Penguins can't handle their cap room when he is in the minors, but most of his contract still counts against the cap, or maybe something else - but this almost could seem like he knows he his safe.

Exactly. If anything, there are probably more reasons to repeat it than there were when he did it first. And if he doesn't do it, why?

Well, he gets the money no matter what and his 35+ contract means they need to open up enough cap space to even put him in the AHL (1.15M minimum to demote and replace, if my capgeekless self remembers correctly) and this, logically (please), is it for him. Adams has gone YOLO, either going all out to earn a spot or trying to make a mess on his way out. They've got to get rid of that ****er and I don't care if it requires sending Scuderi to TtEoT or JoeyJakes (?).

This Adams garbage reeks of something being wrong. From getting the contract, to still being here, to always playing, to the media not saying anything until recently even though it's all apparently old news. FFS, it's gone on for two regimes.

This Adams **** is just Twilight Zone material. He's a ****ing scrub who should have been out of the league a handful of years ago, yet despite his lack of ability and especially despite his recent actions in practice and the (seemingly) dislike the locker room has for him, he's still around.

It doesn't compute.

At all.

It's not even like he was a former star player for the franchise who has completely lost his ability, but it's a delicate balancing act because of what he'd done previously for the club. Adams is, and always has been, a fringe NHL player. He's the epitome of the guy who is constantly on waivers because he's only useful to a team when they run into injury problems, but he's gone when everyone is healthy.

Yet in Pittsburgh, he's a mainstay. He's as much a part of the regular roster as Sid, Geno, Letang and Flower are.

It's insane.

Was just at Consol for a game. When you enter through the main entrance, there are cardboard cutouts with four players for kids to take pictures with, I believe they are Crosby, Malkin, Letang/Kunitz, and of course Adams (wearing an 'A' no less!)!

For ****'s sake.

Downie needs to give him a nice knee-on-knee next practice. Get him off the ice the rest of the year, get to use his cap hit towards LTIR. Win-Win.

I mean, we did sign Downie in part to protect our stars, right?

See, I'm not even surprised. I don't get it, though.

Hopefully someone on the Penguins writes a book about these last few years.

Craig's Father-in-law is a politician, yes?

Craig is like the idiot cowboy in "Casino" who is head of security when the machines get hit for a big heist. De Niro fires him and immediately feels the wrath of the invisible hand behind the throne.

Craig gets waived and suddenly there's a hole in the Console Energy Franchise Agreement and next thing you know all kinds of revenue streams are drying up.

Conspiracy theory? Conspiracy fact!

I'm not even surprised. It's truly bizarre but something that makes perfect sense in the context of this team. I hope someone knocked it over, though.

Considering how "respected" he is it's weirdly impressive how miserable he apparently is, maybe it's a teammate problem, idk.

Official Penguins site is also talkin about going back to the three centers-model.

Penguins Back to Three-Center Model:

“(Perron is) a proven 20-plus goal scorer in the league, so that’s positive, especially when we have (Patric) Hornqvist, (Pascal) Dupuis and (Blake) Comeau out of the lineup,” Johnston said. “That was important because now we can balance out our centers. We can run with the three centers as we wanted to. We don’t have to double up on a line.

“I think everybody knows that ideally, we’d like to have those three centers. Whenever we can run with the three centers and with (Marcel Goc), he’s such a valuable guy in behind that, then that’s our strength. And we have to play to our strength.”

It’s somewhat of an adjustment for Crosby and Malkin, who hadn’t dealt with this much inconsistency before. Before last season, Chris Kunitz and Dupuis were mainstays on Crosby’s wings, while Malkin played all of last year with Jussi Jokinen and James Neal.

“I think that everyone knows their role, so I think that you just have to go out there and play your game regardless of who it’s with,” said Crosby, who’s played the last few games with Perron and Steve Downie. “Obviously, depending on the line you’re with, you may play in different situations or the minutes might change a little bit. But I think other than that, everyone’s role is pretty constant. So I think just understanding that and just trying to find out little things you can about the guy you’re playing with, but for the most part, just play your own game.”

Malkin admitted to being nervous entering each game with new wingers and said “it’s tough to change every game with a new linemate,” but it certainly doesn’t look that way on the ice. He’s had the Midas touch lately when it comes to setting his wingers up.

“I thought Geno’s been good in the last several games, but he’s been pretty consistent the whole year whether he’s playing wing or center,” Johnston said. “He’s got a great work ethic, and when he’s got the puck he usually makes good things happen. I didn’t think he was forcing plays as much as he was for a while there lately. I thought he’s been making good decisions, protecting the puck when he needs to.”

I was listening to the fan this morning on my way into work and they were talking about it. Jim Colony thinks he is doing this because of how badly the power-play has been so he is acting like another teams penalty killer to help the Pens out :help:. That may possibly be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. At least Dunlap had enough common sense to call him a fringe NHL'er at best. The saddest part is that Colony actually thinks he is trying to help the team, it's unreal.
