None taken. Merely putting it "out there". I didnt see it myself, second hand from third hand information.... NDA n' all. Prolly better if you believe Im just makin it up anyway.

Not you, Killie. You never struck me as the kind of guy who would make stuff up. You use some crooked phrases but you always seem like a straight shooter.

But the second or third hand in that grapevine, that's almost certainly someone with a limited capacity.

In your defense, K, perhaps the genesis of things being askew was the prospectus itself.

... perhaps huh? Moot anyway as Major Jamisons' capsule burned up leaving Earths atmosphere on its way to the Moon but still. Not only were losses nowhere near as assumed according to my "source", apparently the thing was basically a tax accountants wet dream. Gives one some perspective as to what was going really going on, might still be to some degree. Impossible to be sure of without actually pursuing oneself & in doing so signing an NDA... well, Im not goin there. But I did/do trust the individual from whom I heard about it.

The NHL has always had an incentive to publicly overstate those losses pre-lockout. They may even have had an incentive to overstate the losses in the bill for 2010-11 -- with a council of clowns and Beasley on their side, maybe they thought there was no way the city would ask to see the team's books.

But surely the league had no incentive to overstate the team's losses for Jamison. I've seen no official claim to it, but people have been saying that the structure of Gosbee's deal is similar to Jamison's (Fortress+NHL+some equity). If $12-15M only covers the interest expense, what are the odds of the team breaking even soon? Why would Gosbee succeed if Jamison failed? The only upside to a potential Gosbee deal is a shorter non-relocation period, so if it succeeds, you can bet they'll use that out clause.

Oh, well, then it's a good thing you didn't narrow down the possibilities on who the "source" might be...

Interesting, Llama what's your opinion on whether or not a deal will get done with RSE?
Also could I have your permission to post the .pdf on the Jets forum?

....Skating Around Open Meetings.

Interesting & well written, researched, and to say the least, far from flattering. "Conniving" about right, and sure, absolutely, clearly & irrefutably in breach of Open Meeting Laws. So lets say a Citizen files a complaint with the Ombudsman's Offices. Whatre' we talking about here? The convening of some sort of quasi-legal hearing months from now, next year? Or does the Ombudsman Offices work with rapacious speed, just swoop down like a giant Thunderbird & haul them off one by one in its giant razor sharp talons way out into the Sonoran Desert somewhere. Dropping them off atop mesa plateau's to think about what theyve done before returning them to the streets of Glendale... Id kinda like to see that.... though I guess I just did, in my imagination, minds eye. Fun trip. Thanks Llama.

From the Attorney General's web site:

How We Resolve Complaints

"After gathering the relevant evidence, the OMLET (Open Meeting Law Enforcement Team) member will work with the public body to reach a resolution of the case. The Office’s primary mission in enforcing the Open Meeting Law is to ensure compliance and educate the public and public officials about the requirements of the statute. Most cases are resolved with mandatory training and a term of monitoring in which an independent attorney ensures that the public body is complying with the Open Meeting Law. In serious cases, the OMLET member may seek a civil penalty of $500 per incident. If the public body refuses to reach an agreed resolution, the OMLET member may file suit in superior court seeking that the appropriate remedies be imposed by court order. If the evidence establishes that a public officer violated the Open Meeting Law with the intent to deprive the public of information, the OMLET member may seek to have the officer removed from office [emphasis mine]."

Unofficially, I like your scenario better...

Interesting, and do you know if this has ever actually happened in Arizona? This case certainly appears cut & dry.

Thanks for that! It was a great read.

To me, it seems like it is written in order to bring Glendale citizens to wake up and ask some questions. It makes little doubt that the close door meeting (that was not a meeting, but a, cough cough, simple get together so people can get to know each other) was illegal according to the open meeting law. All of this story is so wrong.

The whole article sounds like a big wake up call. Will anyone answer? :help:

Sounds like some serious "splitting hairs" going on here in Glendale.

They meet in small groups to avoid the Open Meeting Law, yet they are telling people it wasn't really a meeting ( no agenda, no note taking, etc. ) so nobody should have any issues with it. So if it wasn't a meeting, why not get everyone together for coffee at the same time? Because according to the law, it was a meeting if so many people meet.

They are politicians and they are entrusted with spending the publics money, so that's why they have rules in place to be followed.

I guess if they "meet" in small groups, nothing could actually be decided, but it is a fine line. Me personally am not responsible for the public purse, but this happens all the time in private industry... The "meeting" before the real meeting. I have gone to coffee at Tim's to discuss $500,000 equipment purchases for my industry with vendors. We do this to hammer out the details without the big bosses involved ( bosses manage, they don't actually do any real work ) and then we have the real meeting with the bosses to finalize things based on the "informal" meeting. Saves everyone a lot of time and we get things done.

I predict that the members of the Beavis Pac are not going to agree with the premise of this Glendale Republic article and also suspect an article will soon be published by Faller suggesting that some sort of a counter conspiracy is clearly afoot.

I'd guarantee that will happen they don't have the ummm will to come here and debate the issues involved in this situation but writing blogs with a slanted point of view no problem,

Interesting, and do you know if this has ever actually happened in Arizona? This case certainly appears cut & dry.

Not sure, but Arizona 'citizens' have been arrested for speaking out that public officials are violating the open meeting laws.

To quote:

"Attorney General Tom Horne says his office has found evidence that the Quartzsite Town Council violated the state Open Meeting Law and failed to comply with posting requirements for notices and minutes.

The western Arizona town, which has been through a series of recall elections and courtroom battles over the past few years, made national news last year when a YouTube video showed an activist being dragged away in handcuffs after trying to discuss freedom of speech at a public meeting.

More than a half-dozen critics of the ruling group have been arrested -- many of them repeatedly -- in what dissidents say is a campaign of harassment."

Healy said Glendale is offering $6.5M per year for a subsidy, and the potential owners want $16M. Glendale to decide around June 25th - NHL wants a decision sooner. Hmmm.
