1st step in marketing the team: Change name to the Arizona Coyotes.
2nd step: Change the name from Jobbing.com; Honeywell Arena sounds nice to me.
3rd step: Update the food options.

A question that will occur in the near future: "What did you do last night"?

My answer: "I went to see the Arizona Coyotes at the Honeywell Arena in Glendale and had an amazing hamburger"!

..Chuckwagon Grill's Burgers lousy naurutger?. BoarsHead & Az CheeseSteaks not the greatest? I had some nacho's there one time. Very tasty. And ya, new name, new uni's, start afresh. When does jobbing.com's naming contract expire? Id assume they get first right of refusal for renewal but sure, if a Honeywell or whomever else might be so inclined would be a great way to wash away some of the pasts bad memories. Presentation Sponsors. Ice Surface Sponsor. Paper the joint. Giddyup.

How to get people to the west side? That's a looonnng drive from the east side and forget having a few drinks at the game. I really think that's a significant barrier to attendance.

Screw Google, I went straight to the source in case I was having a brain fart....

http://www.jobingarena.com/

Definately one 'b', even check out the photo at the bottom of the page of the arena marquee...

Yeah, this is really going to bug me. I may have to double up on the Zoloft for a while....

I haven't posted lately so I hope the mods forgive me for posting this in 2 different threads...

**

It looks like 1 thru 4 will be checked off "The List" very soon...

1) The NHL will sell GJ the Coyotes for ~$75M to $100M.
2) The NHL will announce a sale price of ~$170M.
3) The GWI will huff and puff but do nothing.
4) The NHL will continue to say that they have NO plans for expansion.

**

5 thru 9 to be completed by year's end. 10 and 11 by 2014/2015. 12 is a constant...

5) The NHL will enter a negotiation with the NHLPA and insist on a 50-50 revenue sharing.
6) The NHLPA will say “HELL NO!!!!!â€.
7) The NHL will then say “I’ll tell you what. You give us 50% (a reduction of 7% ) and we will expand by 2 teams (a jobs increase of 7%)â€.
8) The NHLPA will agree.
9) There will be a higher ceiling and lower floor – making the Coyote less expensive to run. The players will also get to play in Sochi in 2014.
10) The NHL will expand to QC in around 2014. The BoG will put a cool $200M in their pocket that they don’t have to share with the players.
11) The NHL will also expand to either Seattle (for $150 - $200M) or Toronto(2 for $300M). Again, the players will see none of it.
12) Gary Bettman will look like a hero which will make us all feel a little sicker at night.

#1 and #2 cannot coexist. If #2 is true, then #1 implies 29 other owners are secretly subsidizing Jamison's purchase price for $70-100M, i.e. 5-10 years worth of revenue sharing?

I'm not a lawyer but I recall CF or another resident lawyer saying there can't be any Gift Clause case if the lease agreement doesn't come into effect. So #3 is still speculation and if you cross it because you assimilate the recently overturned initiatives then you haven't been paying attention. #4 is probably right.

I believe you have the CBA part completely wrong. According to reports Don Fehr is either a skillful negotiator or just an evil guy, but both definitions imply he's smart. The NHLPA is not going to give up

- 7% of their share of revenues (i.e. 7/57 = 12.3% of salaries as you know ;) )
- $600M in predictable revenues that could be part of HRR

while all they get is

- 6.67% higher membership
- the right to play in Sochi (with hockey fans clearly on their side here).

This thread title is really going to bug me. The name of the arena is Jobing.com....

Don't get hung up on the number of b's, ED. We have enough to talk about.

Of all the moving parts that I'm skeptical of, 1 and 2 (in no particular order) are the ability to relocate to QC at this hour, and JIG having the investors lined up.

4 weeks ago I predicted that the team would move to QC that week. Now I think it is implausible that either JIG will own the team or that the team will relocate. Which leaves the following options:

1. lockout
2. NHL owns for another year
3. Team folds.

CF, I was incredulous when you brought up option 3 a couple of weeks ago, but if the BoG is ultimately pulling the strings, I don't think it impossible if followed by a $150mm expansion fee in 2013. It would amount to an interest free loan and a $1+ mm lost per team to the league.

To be fair, even the City seems to be unsure, as the addresses in the Jamison/COG lease agreement (article 24) are written as "Jobbing.com Arena"..

Wait a minute, so even the city that owns the arena and guy trying to fleece...er...buy the team don't even know the correct spelling?:whaaa?:

Funny if the some judge uses the same standards that the Glendale Clerks used to throw out the petitions to throw out the lease...:D

And you may find yourself living with a bankrupt team
And you may find yourself in another part of the world (Quebec)
And you may find yourself behind the screen of a large hockey board
And you may find yourself in a rundown house, without any meaningful life
And you may ask yourself - Well...How did I get here?

Hi Barney,

First, in a forum (and endless threads) where even the smartest posters flip flop on what they feel will happen, I have listed what I believe.

Second, there is no way anyone pays $170M for this team. I believe the NHL will announce $170M but, just like with the Stars and the Lightning, the truth will eventually come out and we will find out that JIG paid far less.

Third, I don't think anyone in this thread believes the GWI has done anything (to this point) that goes above huffing and puffing.
Perhaps this will change. Until it does, I believe 3 is accurate.

As for the rest...

Number 4 is, as you have said, accurate. So is 5 - Bettman said in an interview, after I posted "The List", the NHL needs a 50-50 split.

As for the negotiations... The NFLPA settled for 48%. The NBAPA settled for 51%. The NHLPA will settle for ~50%.

Anyway, I have been a good sport and taken the good natured (and not so good natured) ribbing about my predictions.
If "The List" turns out to be (surprisingly) accurate, I hope credit is given where credit it due.

Carry on...

IIRC, jobing.com is a Delaware Corporation formed in 2001, the company was started in Arizona in 2000 by Aaron Matos, and HAS NEVER BEEN "jobbing" except when other people MISSPELL it. Including lawyers who misspell it in legal documents.

I also remember reading somewhere they own the url "jobbing.com" and that if you type that it redirects to their website, but I'm too bored to try that out and for all I know it directs to a Rickroll.

I'm waiting for some "sharp as a butter knife mind" to argue the vote is invalid because of typos. :)
