Kessel needs just 29 points in 25 games to hit 90 POINTS.

I wonder who was the last American that hit 90 points...

Lol I love the way you phrase that.

"Just a measly 29 points in 25 games"

Phil Kessel's response to being asked about the prospects of being a 50 goal scorer, in his introductory press conference (in 2009):

"I want to be considered a great player in the league, so I'm going to work as hard as I can and do whatever I can to get there. I just want to help the team win. That's the main goal here. It's not individual goals, it's me coming in here, doing whatever I can to help the organization, the team win hockey games."

He was fierce on the backcheck tonight too. The compete level went all the way to 11. It's fun watching a player like him when he's hot.

I think it was Modano (93), Hull (97), and Roenick (107). All in the 93/94 season.

I'm just hoping Kessel can hit 40, 10 goals in 25 is really doable for him. 90 points would be absolutely amazing, especially 40-50.

Guy can shoot, but he is terrible defensively, and is soft. Will be nothing more then a 35 goal scorer.

I don't no if this is reaching but I want him to hit 100 points, he is talented enough to do it. Not this year but once in his career. He's definitely in his prime right now though so if he's going to do it it will be next year in 2014-115 or 2015-2016.

This kid really is a thrill to watch. Legit question, when was the last time the Leafs had a player consistently place top 10 in scoring like Phil has the last 3 years?

Leaf fans have a reason to be excited about this guy which is why I shake my head every time I see a post trying to downplay his talents or concentrating on his faults.

Sundin and Gilmour never finished top 10 in scoring 3 consecutive years. Sittler did it in the 70s, I can't think of anyone else after him who might've done it, Lanny didn't.

I remember after the first period being kinda choked, Kessel bailed on a couple hits, skating around looked disenterested.

Then bang, hatty plus the clinching assist.

That's just the type of player he is I guess. Love how him and Kadri are absolute Sens killers.

Edit: Kessel as a Leaf vs. Ottawa.
