Small or not in height, this doesn't look like a guy who gives up much pound-for-pound:

It looks like a guy who shovels down salmon non-stop.

When Martel, Bardreau and NAK were on ice together at times last year it seemed like combined they were wider than tall.

None of those three skip days in the gym that is for sure.

I'd be very surprised if Martel is actually below ~175lbs.

I'm not sure Hextall would care.
Marchessault is on his third team in three years, while he scored 30 goals last year, he was a liability overall (2.6 GF/60, 3.6 GA/60).
Sheary had a solid season last year with the walking birds, but has really struggled this season.
Sheary was 24 in his breakout season, Marchessault turned 25 in December of his first NHL season.
So Martel spending the whole season in the AHL would be pretty normal for an undersized forward who doesn't turn 23 until December.

I guess advanced stats are the ONLY way to prove a player's worth, at least that's how it seems whenever you quote something. I'm sure that not taking into consideration the entire team has no effect on the value of a player. Got it.

You won't know until you give him a chance. Or else someone else give's him that chance.

Point is, if we are rebuilding anyways, why not see what he might be? And right now since they want Lindblom to get more AHL time might be the perfect time to see what he can do in the top 9.

Exactly.

We can theorize, analyze, project and speculate, or we can actually test the hypothesis that Martel can be a legitimate top 9 NHL player.

Could he make rookie mistakes that might cost the Flyers a couple of points in the standings? Sure.

Would that derail a Cup run? Not this season.

Agreed Foggster. And as we have all been saying for ages, it's not like Lehtera or Weise are doing anything significant for us. Martel would at least be able to keep up with the play. Also, fan rage would be dampened as they give the kid a chance. For a while lol.

It's concerning that 5v5 scoring is down by 0.02 and points pace is below 100.

Actually, it is concerning that his 5x5 scoring hasn't improved. Is it his linemates? Bad luck?

A PP jump is more opportunity than improvement in play, even a mediocre player is going to pick up points on the 1st PP. Which is why I don't look at total points anymore, the same player can make a 20 point jump if he's moved on to the 1st PP unit.
