It's like they sign these guys without thinking of how that might impact the development of players. Now maybe he just became a non-prospect overnight, but Millman looked like an actual good mid-round pick, got boned by Covid and has been toiling in the ECHL because they have vets taking up minutes in the AHL. He's up now. We'll see if he plays.
Millman is toiling in the ECHL b/c he sucked when they gave him a shot in the AHL. And he's not blowing up the ECHL either.

Good teams have good prospects on their AHL teams b/c they have depth at the NHL level and don't have to rush prospects - Pens are a good example, almost all their prospects spend a year or more in the AHL. So when they come up, they're NHL ready, not learning on the job.

This has been my gripe with the organization since the beginning of time. These vets with no future are constantly being given the choice ice time. And it is not like they are helping to create winning atmosphere, if you play losers then you lose...

If Millman was a legit prospect some NHL woud have made a move on dumb Chuck by now don't you think? The door isnt closed though he is a total long shot.

Speaking of the Pens how has Ronnie's drafts looked so far?

He's only had two drafts, and Rutherford traded the 2021 1st, so hard to say.
Hasn't made many trades either.
4/11/21, Jeff Carter for 3rd, 4th
7/17/21 Hallender, 7th for McCann, Hallender (22) still in the AHL,. Toronto let Kraken take McCann (26) in the expansion draft, 43 goals in his last 106 games.
1/4/22 Nylander for Lafferty, Nylander (24) still in the AHL, Lafferty has been meh for the Blackhawks
3/21/22 Rakell for Aston-Reese, Simon, 2nd rd pick, Clang. Rakell (29) 33g 13-9 22
Clang (20), SHL goalie, Simon now in Czech republic,
7/16/22 Petry and Poehling for Matheson, 4th rd pick, Petry (35), 3 yr/$6.25M a year on IR. Poehling (23), 4th line

7/29/21 signed Heinen $1M, resigned 2022 to another 1 year deal
7/13/22 signed Rutta (32), 3yr/$2.75 a year

Completely underwhelming for guy who was gifted 3 1st ballot hall of famers to start his tenure. Just another in a long line of average at best GM's.

Will he get another GM job once he is canned?

Anyone know why the Flyers did not offer Theo Rochette a contract. He was a camp invite this year. He has 50p in 30 g, albeit his 5th year, but it is not like he all of a sudden started scoring as an over ager; he has been pretty consistent. I believe a was almost a ppg in his draft year (19-20), his plus minus is decent in his early years, and while he is not big, he is not exactly a "midget"......Was it possible he had a little too much skill for Fletcher?

A lot of teams wait until after March 1st to sign overage CHL players to a future contract to get them on 3 year ELCs rather than burning off the first year playing Junior. Flyers would have been at 50 contracts a while ago if they signed him.

That's my guy. The reason they didn't sign him is the same reason they do or don't do anything - they are all f***ing idiots.

Rochette was invisible in camp, as opposed to Avon the year before who flashed speed.

That is pretty much how the Flyers operate - if you do not show it immediately and often everything else is written off. Regardless of his camp performance, he has a pretty good, sustained body of work, probably better than many of their actual draft picks.......

Better to focus on a practice instead of real games though. It pays off so well for this team after all.

Remember when Fletcher and Flahr tried to force this guy on the Flyers to start the season? He's signed to an NHL contract at $800K one way next season.

“Clearly what we saw last year — whether it was Lappy, Brent (Flahr), Danny (Briere), me — we had a lot of time, and we’re very impressed with what he did last season, so that certainly bought him the opportunity to be here now,” Fletcher acknowledged. “He knows he has to step up a bit, and he’ll get that opportunity.”

Jani Nyman is playing for Finland at the WJC. Drafted this past summer at pick #49, late July birthday. His age 17 draft year he put up 35 points in 34 games in Mestis. Next highest point total on his team? 22 points in 44 games. 49th overall pick. Age 17. He's in Liiga this season.

Just to further reinforce that falling backwards and producing in your age 19-20 season in Mestis as a 2nd rounder means absolutely nothing.

Yet another guy on the Chuck Fletcher special: 2 year contract, 2-way/1-way. This is how you become the only NHL team with 50 contracts.

Hodgson was another one of their pets. Despite him being older than Travis Sanheim. It's almost like Fletcher and Flahr are absolutely utterly horrific at evaluating bottom end talent and going gaga over sub-NHL players.

They have Kevin Connaughton signed for next year as well for god knows what reason.

Fletcher loves locking up spare NHLers/AHL bodies to multiple year deals. He gave Seeler, Hodgson, Brooks, Marody, & Connaughton all two year deals this past summer.

Uncertainty makes him shit himself. Having safety blanket vets for 2 years instead of 1 equal more certainty which equals less soiled depens.

2 year contracts for AHLers gives you an off-season with even less work. Work means worry. Worry means tummy aches. Tummy aches mean Milk of Magnesia. Chuck doesn’t need that.

Marody is an elite AHL scorer, probably needed to offer 2 years to get him to sign, same with Brooks.
Seeler is an AHL plus player who's playing like a solid #6/#7 and on a two way deal next year, no problem with that deal.
Connaughton, should have kicked the tires.

You do need a core of veterans for your AHL team, as Anisimov shows, a solid veteran can raise the play of prospects.
However, you also have to know when to move on.
