Jani Nyman is playing for Finland at the WJC. Drafted this past summer at pick #49, late July birthday. His age 17 draft year he put up 35 points in 34 games in Mestis. Next highest point total on his team? 22 points in 44 games. 49th overall pick. Age 17. He's in Liiga this season.

Just to further reinforce that falling backwards and producing in your age 19-20 season in Mestis as a 2nd rounder means absolutely nothing.

Yet another guy on the Chuck Fletcher special: 2 year contract, 2-way/1-way. This is how you become the only NHL team with 50 contracts.

Hodgson was another one of their pets. Despite him being older than Travis Sanheim. It's almost like Fletcher and Flahr are absolutely utterly horrific at evaluating bottom end talent and going gaga over sub-NHL players.
Grossdick for 750k is a steal!

They have Kevin Connaughton signed for next year as well for god knows what reason.

Fletcher loves locking up spare NHLers/AHL bodies to multiple year deals. He gave Seeler, Hodgson, Brooks, Marody, & Connaughton all two year deals this past summer.
No issue with Seeler or Marody. The others and players of their ilk can be found anytime. They should not in any way get a 2 year deal when you already had Seeler and Marody. It made zero sense then and even worse now.

It means he has fewer guys to sign next year. It's laziness. He's dodging work.
Nah it is just incompetence.

Seeler is exactly what you want in an AHL veteran, good enough to fill in at the NHL level in case of injury, all star caliber at the AHL level, solid mentor for young defensemen. Belpido is also a solid AHl D-man who could fill in at the NHL level.

Connaughton was that guy 3 years ago, unfortunately, they forgot to kick the tires before driving him off the lot.

Marody is another top AHL player, though he's not of much use as an injury fill-in, Brooks might have more potential in that role.

Hodgson was their best scorer last year.

The second year is unfortunate, whether they give them a two way or NHL contract really doesn't matter except that it makes it harder to dump the player on cash strapped teams, since the cap hit is buried in the AHL, it's just money.

Seeler isn't signed for the AHL.

That's not what he's doing this season.
He's now alternating with Braun as the #6 D-man.
It's not like any of the Phantom D-men are making a case that they should be playing in the NHL right now.
Ginning might be playing the best of the group.
Zamula 9g 0-0 0 -2 at ES
Ginning 26g 1-6 7 +10
Attard 27g 3-5 8 +1
Wylie 17g 1-3 4 +1
Hogberg 13g 1-2 3 +3

Alternating as the #6 is not "AHL Veteranning."

It's also not even what's happened. Like I predicted and you scoffed at, he's a roster staple.

TDA, Provorov, York, Sanheim and Risto are roster staples.
That leaves one spot for Seeler and Braun.

York is one inevitable cold streak from being demoted. You assured us York and Zamula both would be roster staples from day 1. You were wrong, because you do not understand how the team thinks.

Now, you were right that they SHOULD have been. But the team just doesn't work that way.

The seeler signing has been about as good as you can get from a deal like that.
I won't complain about the usage of guys low on the chart unless there's a reason I think the guys below them should play.
