Any team that has crap goaltending is prone to lose to the Canucks. They have enough offensive talent to keep up in those games. As we’ve all seen, any team with good goaltending and/or defensive systems will wreck them.

Must be near the best game played by any Canuck in history. And the thing is Pettersson has put together several games nearing this level in other games this season. Game shows the distance between him and the rest of the players on the team. Without him out the points suddenly begin to dry up for others such as Horvat, Miller and even Hughes.

Good

Pettersson - best player in any category you want to consider

Kuzmenko - if you want to resign this player to anything like a cap friendly contract get him away from Pettersson. Effort combined with talent in this game.

Pederson - helped by playing with Pettersson but showed off good turn of speed and moved puck well.

Bad

Horvat - sluggish and getting little done. Reaching a lot and made a horrible line change on the 4th goal against.

Miller - looks gassed all the time. Too many turnovers and poor passes. You wonder if he is in good enough shape. Dies at the end of every shift and looks too bagged to compete.

Schenn - big drop off in his game likely result of injury. Not moving well enough to cover people in his zone or to get in position to make passes

OEL - way too often reacting late to situations. Doesn't move well enough off the puck to give an outlet to defensive partner or option for forwards when the team cycles the puck. Looks to be avoiding contact.

Hughes - popgun shot isn't getting through and he keeps banging shots off pads. Poor on the 2 on 1s and slow around his net. In general our defense remains a disaster.

Aman - his line was backed up in their zone for most of its shifts. Doubtful that Aman can create any offense at all. Think Allvin and co. want to get credit for getting a player but he is not, ATM, NHL standard. Coverage is becoming increasingly worse. Likely they should give him time in Abby and bring Podkolzin up and shift Lazar back to center. Really our 4th line is one of the worst in the League. Last years was obviously better and present management needs to be criticized here.

Martin - Seattle could easily have scored more open net goals. Martin has to settle down and not get pulled so badly out of position. Tough on him since the defense is giving up so many chances and allowing other team to control their zone. However, won the shoot out.

Others

Garland - trying to do it by himself and given play of line mates can't blame him. Trouble is he is off on his own and team play breaks down. (-3 was indicative of that) He was, however, dragging the team back into the fight and he did create some good chances. Finding the right line mates for him remains a problem

Myers - kind of like Garland - lot of running around trying to compensate for poor play in defensive zone. Sometimes this allows him to break up plays and get puck out of his zone. Also leads to to forced play and bad turnovers. In the right situation Myers could be an effective player. But given the poor defensive play of the forwards. a player like Myers is left groping.

Thought Burroughs and Stillman were better than you could have expected. Stillman got caught up ice a couple of times but duo had decent shifts and were likely better than some of the d-men combos.

jt miller made a thoughtful statement for him the other day that the canucks have been playing like it is game 7 for a year and a half and they need to calm down.

although i don't know about game 7 that is sort of true. they currently have to play with an emotional edge and effort to compete in a normal regular season game against even slightly above average opponents who play patient disciplined systems hockey. the problem for the canucks is that they make so many mistakes that extra emotional and effort usually is not enough. the other problem is the other teams have another emotional and try hard gear that will engage late in the season. and the canucks will have no reply.

disclaimer though that while it's more inciteful than anything bo horvat has ever said out loud to my knowledge, i am just not sure if miller actually understood the implications of what he said. he's easily the worst offender on the team at trying to play pro hockey using raw emotion to cover up for lack of discipiline, thought and preparation.

Seems like the bois bury 1/3 of the other teams gaffes, while allowing 100% of their own gaffes to be goals.

Not a huge disparity in number of brainfarts, but the conversion on them... At a certain point, you'd think we'd fluke into a shutout, or even a 1-2GA night.

It's exhausting to play constantly behind, or under the fear of any routine shot on net.

One man f***ing team. Pettersson is the best and it’s an absolute shame we will waste him.
Cant waste him if you dont have the cap to extend him

Woah on the Hughes critique, he was dynamite moving the puck tonight

Organization doesn’t deserve Pettersson. Dude should get out of town and win some Cups. He makes everyone on this roster, outside of maybe Horvat, look embarrassing.

Random bit of trivia I may have unearthed instead of going to bed at a reasonable time; the Canucks lead their division in rostering undrafted players (Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Dries, Pederson, and Delia). I haven't checked every team but there's a good chance they lead the league too.

Petey is rapidly becoming the NHL's 'quiet superstar'. It's just a real shame that the Canucks blew the opportunity to build around him. Boeser, Horvat, Hughes and Demko were supposed to be the core to build around.

But Horvat is likely headed out the door as a UFA; and Boeser is the mostly likely trade target for the Canucks. And thanks to the plethora of picks they've traded and some bad UFA signings, there's really nothing in the pipeline.

What does get low mean when you say it?
It's from the game Days Gone, and it's open to interpretation. I think it means something like: to hit rock bottom, so you can build yourself up again... but the main character mocks the group of crazies that use the term, muttering at them to "get low" as he angrily kills them, as in 6 feet under-low

Enjoy it while you can Canuck fans......the Oilers lie in wait tomorrow night in frigid Edmonton.....The league's best PP faces the league's worst PK......and with the five-spot the Kraken put up last night, the Canucks are 30th in team defense.

The astonishing thing to me is that there are actually two teams out there that are worse than the Canucks. McDavid and Draisaitl are probably looking forward to filling their boots. Facing an AHL-lifer in goal and that Canuck blueline!...Yikes!

Could the Canucks make up their minds and either win 10 in a row or lose 10 in a row. This team is frustrating.

And, damn Petey .... amazing.
