Lol! He was drafted in the 6th round. The fact he made an AHL team to begin with is surprising. “Bust” that’s gold. Give the kid 2 seasons in the A before declaring anything. He was always an extreme long shot

Unfortunately in this forum, any prospect who isn't producing at a .5 ppg pace or better in the NHL by their D+2 season is a bust.

It doesn't mean he's a bust, but it does mean the people who voted him as the #12 prospect in the organization a couple months ago may have been overrating him a bit. When you have guys like Rathbone, McEwen, and Chatfield (who were #16, #17, and somehow not even rated) who have gotten off to much better starts it's okay to be disappointed with Palmu's start.

Sure, it’s ok to be disappointed but to call him a bust is all kinds of stupid. Expectations were/ are always too high for our prospects on here. I guess that’s just HF Boards in a nutshell

Yeah, he was drafted what, 200? Yeah, expectations are kind of hard to believe around here sometimes. That #12 rating here was fall out of your chair funny though.

So many people underrate how tough the AHL is. Both Palmu and Juolevi thrived in the first division Finnish Liga last season. But have had hard landings in the AHL so far. Key for them will be to see some sort of improvement as the season evolves. If they aren't any better after Xmas then we can bring out the worry beads.

More like so many people overrate how tough the Liiga is. Both palmu and juolevi's seasons in the Liiga was nothing special.

Henrik Tallinder was the #1 defender for TPS last year. Henrik Tallinder is 39 years old and the last time he played in the NHL was 5 years ago as a #6 dman for the disastrous buffalo sabres.

People over rate all prospects and think they will be stars at the ahl level. It was hysterical hearing about how Utica was going to be "stacked" this year for the fourth consecutive season.

It's not hilarious if you live here. I am accused of being a whiner at the dearth of centers. I actually believe I am near hysterical over that issue.

@orcatown pegged Darcy straight on in his coverage of last night's game - an ECHLer. I keep getting told Darcy is a decent AHL center when I KNOW he is NOT! And so it goes.

As to Petrus, the kid is only playing now because the Comets don't have anything else. It's GM Johnson's great acquisition Reid Gardiner or Palmu. Palmu is Canucks draft pick so Palmu gets the nod. It's not really because one is better than the other, although Reid does actually have possession of the puck once in a while. Not so of Palmu.

Not the appropriate thread, but it's why Gadjovich is in the lineup as well, Lind and Boucher would see these 2 watching from the well. Even Hamilton would mean scratch for one of them.

So by mutual agreement of the Canucks and his agent, Petrus Palmu is leaving Utica and heading back to Finland. Had a decent training camp. But did he get a fair shot in Utica? Is the last time we see him in NA?

Except it's not his D+2 season. It's his D+4 season as he was eligible in the 2015 draft. He went undrafted until his D+2 season. Last year was his D+3 season, and this year his D+4 season.

He's a nothing prospect, and this move wouldn't garner any attention except for the fact that Benning Bro's kept using him as one example of Benning being some sort of draft guru.

That 2017 draft, that a lot of people praised, is suddenly not looking all that great outside of Pettersson and maybe Dipietro (though goalies are legitimately too fickle to get any sort of accurate read on).

Gunnarsson ("he'll play") is a full write off only one year later, Palmu's looking like a write off if he can't cut it in AHL, Lind and Gadjovich are off to two incredibly weak AHL debuts, Brassard will reserve judgement until he goes pro but long shot for sure.

DiPietro is still tracking well but goalies are enigmatic and won't get excited until we see him put up a dominant AHL season.

But hey, the Top-5 handed to us for being awful panned out so we got ourselves a draft guru here. Just seem completely allergic to carrying those skills into the other rounds.

Don't let those silly little facts get in the way of someones narrative!

And this is why you don't declare a draft as the best draft in team history until the players have turned pro.

I would argue that you don't declare a draft as the best draft in team history until the players have retired or are near retirement.
