I think he will stay in Providence this season unless there is a major injury bug in the big club. There was definitely some issue right with the start of the season. The lack of production didn't make him Leach's favorite therefore he doesn't get so much PP time. At least since his benching his +/- got much better.
I could see him traded come TDL in a package deal with either Grzelcyk or Zboril+pick for Charlie Coyle.

Many more effective young forward options with under 5 points in Boston that would be traded before any team would want this trash.

He’s shown chemistry with Krejci and Debrusk before. If Heinen doesn’t start producing, I’d put Cehlarik on that line. Not sure what he needs to do to get a call up at this point but I’d send Bjork down and call up Cehlarik. Let Donato spend a few more weeks in the AHL.

Donato has really taken the fast-track recently in regards to his development. He’s scoring left & right, but he’s also stronger and playing with more of an edge and urgency. Much better player than I watched to start the season.

Cehlarik is idling at the moment, as in he hasn’t elevated his game any further in Providence. Do I still think he can be a top-nine player in the NHL? Yes. Do I think he’s what the Bruins need right now? No, I do not.

When everyone is healthy, including Bergeron, I think seeing Cehlarik next to Krejci would be reasonable, as he looked good there before the injury to his MCL. Just don’t think he’s the answer right now, especially in the bottom-six.

Whereas someone like Donato can provide some speed, coupled with a high-end shot and offense. Donato is showing more willingness to cut inside and go towards the net, which is what was missing from him before he was sent down. He was fine along the boards, but he was mostly playing on the perimeter.

If someone is getting called up, I think it would be Donato as he is more of what’s needed right now, IMO.

Hmmmmm.

2 goals playing with David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk, plus at times, Torey Krug, Charlie McAvoy or 2 goals playing in the minors.....not sure which is better/worse.

Plus, I heard Cehlariks CORSI is good and he has a + .734 HFBBOR.

Kinda hard to score NHL goals from the AHL.

I posted this earlier today somewhere, but Cehlarik is the 7th most productive F in PRO on a per game basis. So, when you ask what he needs to do to get a call up...I would guess play better than Cave, Donato, and Hughes, among other things?

Sure, he hasn’t been lights out in Providence this year. He was one of the best wingers in camp though, weren’t you upset about Debrusk and Bjork being gifted spots in camp last year ahead of Heinen? You can’t deny Cehlarik was short chained this year out of camp.

Yes I was and I was upset this year that Donato got the nod over Cehlarik and Frederic even though he wasn’t as good as they were in the preseason.

The difference is that when Heinen got sent down last year, he played four games in PRO and tore it up with 1g/7a (2 pts per game). Cehlarik has not done anything close to that and has not forced the B’s to call him up. Instead, he’s getting outproduced by Cave, Hughes, Donato, etc.

That’s why he hasn’t gotten called up.

Well, yes and no. It’s not always “player x gets recalled because he’s outproducing player y.” If that were the case, Cave would have gotten recalled instead of JFK. Hughes just flat-out isn’t ready yet to play in the NHL, he would get chewed up. Cave and Hughes don’t have the upside in regards to offense that someone like Cehlarik has, if you ask me.

While production certainly plays a large part in being recalled, so does timing and circumstance. JFK wasn’t playing nearly as well as Cave in Providence, but he also has more upside and the ability to be a second-line player. I think he’s shown that’s he’s more effective as a third-line center, however.

He had a bad game last night, and that’s okay, he’s young and there’s a lot being asked of him.

Cehlarik is a good player and I’ve been high on him for a while. His pace is the question, but he’s looked pretty good in that regard this season. It’s hard to evaluate players in Providence right now because before this past weekend, they weren’t playing very well.

I’d like to see Donato get the call now, because I think he’s more of what they need. Cehlarik is more of a complimentary player and playmaker than he is a bottlerocket like Donato. Production aside, the Bruins would be better served calling up Donato because his shot and offensive-ability is simply lethal. Now that he’s cutting inside and driving to the net it’s really added another element to his game.

Cehlarik is fine and played well this weekend, but he has looked idle as of late. I’d like to see him start being at the center of the play again, then see him called up when more players are healthy, and the Bruins have a better feel of what they have in Boston.

Cave is up now and playing well, he should definitely stick around. Donato would be the obvious call up but I don’t know if they’ll call him up this soon or let him get more reps in the AHL first.

I don’t know much about Hughes besides his point productions but I’m not sure we need another center right now. Maybe he can play wing.

I just think they need to send Bjork down for awhile and call up a winger. They called up JFK before Cave and Hughes when the latter had better production. They called up Lauzon before Zboril when some though Zboril had been better. I don’t think it’s crazy to think Cehlarik should get a look based on his history.

I understand all of that. If you have a skill position opening, you are more likely to recall JFK before Cave (although Cave took JFK’s spot last night and looked decent).

What I meant in a general sense is that Cehlarik has not forced a call up with his play like Heinen did last year and it appears Donato is doing now.

Cassidy is pulling what's left of his hair out dealing with an uninterested JFK and ineffective Bjork ,I highly doubt he wants to deal with Cehlarik, who he couldn't wait to cut

You don’t call up a player for what he did last year or two years ago, or in Camp. You call them up primarily based on what they are doing now, what their role is, and what type of opening you have.

I think a 6’2” 200 lbs winger that can make plays would compliment Krejci and Debrusk nicely right now.

And I think based on the call ups, that the GM and the coaching staff disagree. Pace and speed are more of an issue now than ever and that’s Cehlarik’s biggest weakness. People already think Heinen “floats” and he’s a better skater than Cehlarik.

He did. He outplayed them all in the preseason camp. It was still not good enough for Cassidy and Sweeney. What's the point for him to do it again? So they scratch him again with some bulls**t excuses from coach of not having the pace or off the board work? He has had 2 call ups from big club. 2 years ago for 11 games, he didn't look comfortable. Last year he got 6 games with Krejci and DeBrusk before he got injured. He looked pretty good on that line.
I think it's pretty clear message that with all the lack of secondary scoring he has not been called up. I call it a bad asset management. Cehlarik has been mailing it this season in Providence. Best case scenario he is traded by trade deadline. Cehlarik has too much skill, size and vision not to be regular top6 NHL player. Just not for Boston Bruins.

Training Camp was Training Camp. Since then, what has Cehlarik done to deserve a call up?

Last year he looked “comfortable” but only had two points in his time on the 2nd line. Heinen looks “comfortable” with 74 and 46 of late, but is getting ripped for his lack of production, so I’m unsure why Cehlarik deserves a call up based on a relatively unproductive stretch last year?

I don’t think pace is the issue right now, it’s puck possession. Too many players aren’t that great at keeping the puck, pretty much everyone in the bottom 6. Heinen has been better and I’d give him a longer leash, but they need guys that can hold onto the puck and carry it.

I hope Cehlarik doesn’t lose faith. After the camp he had, and then watching JFK get the first call, he must be feeling like they just don’t want him or have a place for him in their plans.
well, JFK plays C for one thing so seeing him get the call shouldn`t have been much of a slight to Cehlarik who, just looking at the stats isn`t exactly lighting it up himself. If anyone might have or could have felt slighted, maybe it would have been Cave with the year he was having then JFK being called up

I dunno, lost at the love Cehlarik gets

Krejci is a master of puck possession when he’s on his game. Not sure that line needs another guy like that?

Heinen needs to slow down and not treat the puck like a hand grenade. I think he’s trying to force plays and it’s part of why he isn’t producing as much this year.

I think it would compliment them perfectly. Debrusk isn’t a puck possession guy so giving Krejci someone else that can hold onto the puck and make plays would give everyone else more space to work. Heinen could be that guy, I’d give him more time to figure it out.

It’s not that Cehlarik should have been called up to play center. It’s that JFK was not playing well at all, and still got the call over the much more deserving Cave. In other words, it Reinforced the message that we give out opportunities to the favored sons first and second and if you’re not on that list your going to have to a) lap the field and b) hope for the perfect storm of injuries to force their hand.
