The shitting on the core is ridiculous…they’re not perfect players, particularly at this stage in their careers, but, as we’ve seen, with the right group around them they’re plenty good enough to get it done

And that has more to do with longevity than anything else.

By comparison what's AO AND MARIO?

AO is 14th. Nobody thinks Sid or Malkin are Mario. Notice the GP with Ovi versus Sid and Malkin. Ovi 1400. Sid 1200. Malkin 1100.

f*** this f***ing group of losers.

-Sully for the Carter-Smith-Eller line
-Ned for being dogshit
-PP for being dogshit
-EK for being the biggest loser on the team
-Tang for being an idiot

HUGE - to all the f***ing losers who can only blame this on TJ. It's so f***ing pathetic. learn to actually watch hockey and analyze before crying about the goalie for everything. Idiots.

f***ign losers, everyone.

The amount of glee from the usual suspects in this thread is a sight to behold. I hope someday I like anything as much as they like bashing the Penguins.
You can name names, be a big kid. :dunno:

I don’t take any joy in the Pens losing, nor any Schadenfreude in us being all but out of the race. I would take joy in reading fewer sanctimonious “I’m a truer fan” posts, though, if anyone’s thinking about holiday gifts early.

Honestly? My biggest dream has consistently been for an against the odds Cinderella story instead of what this team has become. It’s just kind of a shame that we could have been in the playoffs if we’d literally made some basic adjustments early in the season, stopped frittering away points in OT or on the PP. If anyone doesn’t find that infuriating, well, they’re more stoic than any philosopher.

Like none of this heroic “season on the line” needed to be a thing at all, especially because the East is so weak this year.

I'd look at PP points per game. That would be a better barometer. Mario is .766 PPPPG, Gretzky is .59 Hawerchuk is .478 Dionne .477 Sakic is .458 Sid is .438. And I didn't go through all of them but with Sid arguably being a top 5-6 player all time this isn't his strength.

It would be cool if management realized this. But they are just gonna take the @DesertedPenguin approach and be like “we almost made it” so this team is just as good as they were last year.

I'm just pointing out that he doesn't excel on the power play. He's 10th OA in points but 20th OA in PPP's. Again not a strength.

I agree, those were easy points thrown out of the window, there were more than that but these games you mentioned were criminal blows. It was an uphill battle at the end, hard to blame them for Boston game when there are games like ANA, CGY, BUF, LA, COL. I would add season opener with Chicago to that list. Leading 2-0 vs that team and getting zero points.

Back to EK. One point you didn´t mention. It happens a lot this season. A lot of his errors lead to terrible penalties, often in critical times. A lot of bad decisions that he makes. I would understand that, saying that he plays risky brand of hockey if his offense was there in a bigger way. But it isn´t, therefore I think it´s absolutely fair that his errors get scrutinized here. He is a disappointment, everybody expected more. Including Sullivan who mentioned that multiple times that EK can bring more. And I would guess including EK himself, he is too intelligent to not know that he should be better than this.
Valid points, but the Karlsson defense squad wants to distill this into silly, binary discussions, and love their strawmen. He took another stupid penalty yesterday, two days after one of the stupidest pinches in franchise history. He seems closer to a bad Letang in terms of decision making than a recent Norris winner. If, preseason, anyone had predicted one PP goal in 67 games, they would have been laughed off the forum. Sure, Sullly is terrible and our systems need revamping, but Karlsson has been a tremendous disappointment. whether or not folks see the naked king prancing around. And no, Team Strawmen, I don't blame another disappointing season on Karlsson underperforming. It's more than obvious there are structural and resource deficiencies across the board.

I absolutely hate that my whatifs with this era of the Pens aren’t “what if Artie didn’t break his face” and more “what if they actually practiced 3 v 3 and the power play”.

funny at the post game, Steigy and Metzer were praising Islanders how they replaced the coach late in the season only to follow up with praises to Pens heroic stretch and endorsment of Sully, did not even realize the hypocrisy there, they are nobodys but that really appears to be overall team attitude
So true.

Based on what exactly? There's no evidence to support that whatsoever. They haven't won anything since 2018. And they're only getting older.

Sid and Geno have played in every game the last two seasons. Hell, earlier on in their career they missed a ton of games due to various injuries yet those teams still made the playoffs. They have more control then ever before and yet can't get it done. If you sincerely don't have any blame for them then you're just being a glorified fanboi. And keep this in mind, we won our Cup in 2017 WITHOUT Letang. You think about that now.

They’re treated like they’re still dominant players…they need players like Marner, Tkuchuk etc around them, not Reilly f**king Smith

I agree with you there. But herein lies the rub, to get a Marner YOU NEED TO BE A LOTTERY TEAM. And they mangled that.

Look at that Muppet Jake, better player than Bunting, more talented, better point totals. But Bunting is the type of player we need, in fact we could use more such players. That was a GREAT trade not even taking into account the other components (and one in particular has me quite intrigued). And Bunting is signed for two more years and is younger than Jake.

We're a better team with Bunting and without Jake. That's a credit to Dubas in getting younger and accruing more good young assets.

How many of these seasons did Sid participate in? How many of the others? Quick glance Sid looks like 4 of the top 33 seasons. (Click top header, 3rd column to sort.)
If memory serves right, the league was a good bit higher scoring when most of those played including on the power play.
As for Ovi, he was the trigger man. Everyone was/is looking for him. Sid has a high percentage of looking to defer for a higher percentage shot.

Sure, tell Sid that, he wants Sullivan around. When do we start looking at the Core?

Letangs constant and damaging Turnovers
Geno's retaliatory penalties and questionable puck management
Sid not showing up in a must win game
EK's ill advised pinches.

When does the core get blamed?
When the coach is replaced and these exact same issues still remain.

I mean, it's common sense to anyone that isn't a diehard Sullivan defender.

If both Philly and PIT miss the playoffs, we could conceivably have B2B 2hd round picks this draft 45th-48th. If CAR gets to the finals we'd pick 31st or 32hd and one pick around 45th-48th

Who's a ''Diehard Sullivan defender'' here? lol I wanted him gone in 2018, problem is the core doesn't.

Also the PP being manned by the core has failed miserably. Where's their blame?

This has gotta be one of the best years for Carolina.

Easy 1st round and in my opinion the top 4 in the East is wide open.

Jake has 24 points in 16 games since getting away from here.
