So it was confirmed it’s a 2021 conditional. That’s good. Pretty awesome we get to see him in a pens sweater.

Lucky he’s pretty good at o zone battles then. One of the better players in the league

Really, really intrigued to see how Sullivan deploys him. He knows this is his best, last shot, and is going to leave it all on the ice. While we aren't lacking for leadership, having an all-time beauty like Marleau in the room can only help. Now let's get healthy and go!!

This is a solid deal. Nothing to complain about here. Hope he's got something left in the tank and this team can go on a run.

In 170 games, Dominik Simon hasn't even hit 20 career goals as a soon to be 26 year-old. Yet he's seemingly cemented into a 1st line winger role.

Sullivan and co will play Marleau wherever they see fit.

You're video game managing again. We need a third line faceoff guy. We got Marleau. If we wanted Marleau to play top 6 we would have already gotten Nate Thompson to be our faceoff guy.

Lucky for us then since we dont even have a pick until the 4th round this season.

Ofc it's an overpayment.
Just because you dont think a 3rd is worth much doesn't mean there aren't players thats worth even less.

No, it is not an overpayment.

Kovalchuk went for a 3rd. Marleau is a better player than Kovalchuk. Less flashy and less productive offensively, but much more complete. He can PK, he can play center OR wing, he can play in a top 6 role if needed (as a complimentary piece).

Considering the market and what the player can bring to the table, it is a fair deal.

Do you like the deal or not? Now, that's another subject. But an overpayment, it is not.

It doesn't matter about what "we" want. Sullivan is going to do whatever he wants. It doesn't have to make sense, and rarely ever does.

as long as his minutes are managed this is a really good trade for us. At 10m per game he is fine. If you do a toronto and play him 16m a game he's just too old for that to maintain at that pace for any length of time.

Old man Kunitz scored the OT winner against Ottawa lest we forget. If he pots 2-3 goals at key spots in the playoffs it's way worth this trade and he is more then capable of doing so. On top of the faceoff acumen he brings us.
