Retaining on Jake, Rust, and EK if/when this season's in the dumpster gets you multiple 1sts and good prospects imo.

This team can absolutely recoup assets and try to ease the post-Sid phase. They just won't because they're too attached to the era that's been dead since 2020.

Retaining on Rust and EK makes no sense this season.

If we are rebuilding you have to retain strategically otherwise you are stuck with retention eating up two contracts for 3 and 4 years.

It's mind-blowing how Harkins and his 0-0-0 in 11 games still gets chances with the big club left and right.

It's moving close to Bylsma/Adams territory.
But at least one point in time, Adams was a very useful player.

Wonder if Harkins is dating Sully's daughter or something. Wasn't that Sheary?

Yeah, I mean, they have to navigate the next several years correctly. The point is that the overall cap/roster situation doesn't particularly matter anymore. Once Sid retires, which may be in a year and a half, they should just pivot to being a team that takes bad contracts in exchange for assets anyway.

But they still think of themselves as an organization that's befallen misfortune as opposed to mismanagement and awful coaching for half a decade. So they'll keep pretending and it'll only extend this dogshit purgatory they've been in where they're not getting great picks and they're nowhere close to actually competing for a Cup.
