The Oilers get shafted . Oilers need to improve their D so the answer isn’t to trade one of their younger ones unless it is for an upgrade .

That is the question though.. If Nurse + goes in a trade for a better defensemen, who is the target? Are we talking Parayko? Would St. Louis make that deal?

Maybe we need to go after Pietrangelo and once you have a deal in place move a D or two .

Penguins get Domi
Oilers get Rust
Habs get Nurse

Fairly straight up swap. Oilers get a speedy RW to play with McDavid who has had success with elite players, Penguins make a change of scenery swap with top-6 forwards that also fits how JR operates (aka he loves acquiring retreads and players he has liked for a long time) and the Habs get a younger top-4 LD. The years of control for all of these guys are the same, Nurse and Rust both have 2 years left on their current deals followed by being UFAs, and Domi is a RFA while being a UFA in 2 years.

Edit: Updated proposal:

Oilers get McCann and Rust
Penguins get Domi and Lehkonen
Habs get Nurse and Haas/Archibald/Khaira

How often do we see 3 way trades in the nhl? Once a season? Less? I can’t recall many.

Because he is over 6'?
How is he not the exact Dman MTL needs?
Big mean mobile top 4 LHD

Weber is 6'4
Chiarot is 6'3
Petry is 6'3
Kulak is 6'1

He's not a pp specialist/ puck mover towards to upper echelon of the league.

So,no, he's not what the team needs. If he were a forward then he would be perfect.

Montreal could do worse, a lot worse. Nurse is a good dman.

Pay no attention to the large sample size, it’s only the small sample size that matters.

then... why wouldn’t we just pick up Sheary as a free agent instead? For free? Without getting fleeced in a trade?

I am paying attention to large sample size of over 110 games.

Sheary has fallen of a cliff. But when he was here blocking Rust he was above Rust in the depth chart.

Oh gross. I'd rather cut the Oilers out and trade Domi to the Pens for Rust+1st. Yes, +1st. Rust is older, and there is a good chance his numbers this year are a product of playing with Crosby and Malkin. I'm not even sure I'd do that though, but Nurse is trash.

This entire post is in an alternate reality.

LMFAO if you want to make your team worse by all means pick up Sheary. He’s absolute hot garbage. If he wasn’t married to Sully’s niece and someone Sid liked to play with, the Pens would never have dealt for him again.

He’s f***ing terrible. If you had a drinking game for how many times he falls on his face during a game you’d die of alcohol poisoning.

Can’t even make a comparison.

Because Sheary sucks.

Unless you enjoy watching someone fall over every other shift when a stiff breeze hits him. Or enjoy watching someone handle the puck as though it's a rubber ball.

(If you can't tell, I just don't like Sheary)

I don’t know any Pens fans who like Sheary. He’s f***ing terrible. Tanner Glass contributed more positive attributes to the team. At least he was a good PKer. Sheary is just good at falling on his face. I said what I said.

Sounds like Sam Gagner. We call him Snowpants on account of how often he falls down.

Regardless, I see absolutely no reason to move Nurse for Rust.

Sheary was better than malkin Zucker, tanev, zar, McCann, bleuger, letang, dumo, petterson, Shultz, murray in the Montreal series... . Sure he isn't great but he wa better than ALL those listed..easily

Domi isn't better than Rust.

I'm a big fan of Domi, but I might agree with you.

Rust is an excellent skater, plays a solid defensive game and is an excellent forechecker and can be used in a penalty killing role.

His skillset allows him to not only play with high end offensive players, but contribute and also be a bit of a defensive conscious on those lines.

Rust is significantly more versatile and that makes their value pretty even. As I said, I'm a big fan of Domi, but I don't think he's better than Rust.
