I guess, I just don't really see why Detroit cares at this stage. They don't need the space.

They give up the best player (who is 24) and give up a pick, which doesn't make much sense for where they're at.

Yeah doesn't really make sense for the Pens to take on a bad contract or for the Wings to trade for a UFA either. A simplified base around AA for Sprong as a change of scene scenario makes more sense.

Except, AA has been at worst Detroit's 3rd best forward and has been their best ES player, so its more like trading a really good young forward for a forward that might need a change of scenery.

I just don't see any benefit for Detroit to even consider this given that they don't need the cap space right now.

What's with fans approaching a rebuilding team and asking for their best young players in exchange for leftovers and castoffs?

I'm tempted to make a PSA thread:

Larkin, Bertuzzi, AA, Mantha, Rasmussen and Cholowski are not available. Just don't ask; we do not want to trade these players.

AA doesn't need a change of scenery anymore with how he's playing this year. He's been really good, playing the best hockey of his career right now.

Brassard & Sprong For Athanasiou and Helm and Detroit 2nd round pick in 2019

What do you guys think?

Wings gives up 2 useful things and gets 0 back, since Brassard is an UFA, and Sprong can only develop in europé or NHL, tnx to Pens going full Oilers on Sprong

Ew.

Awful for the Pens. Lose the best player and take Helm's contract.

Sheahan would become our 3C...

We need Brassard.

Exactly, except for the part that it doesn't make sense and AA doesn't need a change of scenery. He needed to mature mentally, which he has done and continues to do.

This is dumb. The Wings don't need Brassard right now and the Pens aren't going to want to take on Helms contract.

Athanasiou would work well in Pittsburgh. What would the Wings want?

To use him in a package deal for a bigger fish, if anything at all.

He just turned 24, is only now coming into his own, and provides highlight reel excitement on his own as we drudge through a rebuild. He's also still RFA after next year. Can't imagine the Pens would want to compensate for his value to Detroit.

BRUTAL for DET!!

1. AA...Blazing Speed (McDavid/Larkinesque) 24 yr. old, cheap contract for 2 yrs, then still an RFA, C/LW versatility, just starting to really come into his own, uber-talented, slick moves & hands, highlight offensive skills, decent NHL size, currently on a lottery team with bottom 3 D-core, producing .8ppg (65 pt pace/38 goals)

& a early 2nd? WTH?

2. Helm is not a cap dump, he had 30+ EV strength points last year on an abysmal team in a shutdown role, with almost no PP time, (that's better than plenty of 1st & 2nd line C/W's on playoff teams & contenders!! (look it up).

Brassard... UFA aging 3rd line C, (2nd line fill-in C) trending downward last 3 years. 35-40 pt. C on the Pens!!
Sprong...hasn't proven anything on a contending Pens roster, yet he'll be better elsewhere?

clearly a troll trade thread.

Helm's contract?

Yeah, even though a lot of folks just want to give Helm away on Detroit board, sorry but no. Helm is a very good defensive player. His contract isn't a problem and his spot on the roster was only a problem because some fans think we have a bunch of young Crosby's ready to take us to promise land if not for Holland holding them back in favor of Helm. (Reasons why Holland does that vary of course) Its also less of a problem these days because we have a bunch of youngsters on the team now... Then there's AA who I sure as hell wouldn't move alone for that offer.

A little one sided and was trolly in and of itself...but it wasn't completely untrue. You had a decent point until...

Counteroffer:
Frans Nielsen .66 ppg (55 pt. pace)...on a lottery team w/bottom 3 D-core.

for

Derrick Brassard & 2020 2nd+3rd

...now you lost credibility. Dial it down there Turbo.

Just making things up about Brassard.

Trending Downwards? He had 46 points in 72 games. 40 of those at 5v5.

Lol at calling him a 35 point 3C.

He's a clear 2C.

It's all and all a terrible deal for both teams. Pens say no rather easily. As do the Wings.
