Murray, Dumoulin, Sheary, Schultz are all due pay rises though and we need a pay rise for a 3C no matter who it ends up being (most likely)

Murray is already included in the new figures though.

The rest will eat up a big chunk no doubt.

Yep didn't see that. So many variables this off season with expansion. Sure is going to be interesting.

At least we know at a minimum we'll still have a really good team and pretty healthy cap wise too.

Should we pull off what Nashville is doing on D? just roll a sick top 4 D and leave the rest to meh. Rebuild the D to fit a sick top 4 D, maybe even trade Dumo and Maatta. I dunno how to get that D besides having Letang and Schultz as 2 of the 4 D pieces. Maybe try pulling that Flames trade for Brodie? then look for 1 more piece for Schultz unless you just wanna keep Cole there.

Rosi and Subban are both legit #1 D... we aren't going to find that in free agency or via trade so already we would be behind the 8 ball in that setup.

I'd like to trade with Carolina for one of their young D. They have a bunch that are already/or projected too 4. They need forwards maybe goal tending too ;)

Well they are working on signing Darling atm. If he decides to test the market, I suppose they might need Flower then. You most likely would have to make a package though beyond him only.

I'm pretty interested in the idea that the expansion draft could shake free some classy young dmen and that maybe we could strengthen there through trade. We've got a great unit when everyone is on song and issues when they aren't, and even with things going well transition seems to be an issue.

But I'm guessing the price will be pretty high and I'm not sure how valued our possible trade chips are.

I think if we're gonna change up the defence, we're gonna be looking for more cheap reclaimation projects.

Honestly, I'm not expecting much of a change. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if we look to sign 1 or both of Hainsey and Daley (1 if we protect 4D, both if we don't).

Is unbelievable how good the Predators are at drafting D ... and they lost Hamhuis and Ryan Suter to FA years ago and traded Seth Jones!

It'll be interesting what those two get/are offered. In some scenarios I could see them coming back.

I was just kinda taking an overhead look at everything they have up here and in the system and I really think a trade is eventually happening for a D prospect or two and I think it will be for Gustavsson. I don't see him staying in our org given we have pretty much no center or D prospects. Could trade Jarry too I suppose if he gets a little playing time up here eventually and looks good. Would probably yield a better return.

No way they keep Daley- the wheels have officially fallen off

I could definitely see them keeping Hainsey though. Ruh-Hainsey would be a nice 5/6 pair

I see this off season as being relatively easy but extremely difficult. I doubt much will be considered until after the expansion draft. I just have no idea what to make of it. Usually I have an idea or two about what they will do but right now, for the first time in awhile, I have no clue.

One thing for sure, with the emergence of Sheary, Rust, Guentzel, and Kuhnhackl while also considering Wilson and Archibald and keeping in mind Sprong will be here soon...we should not need any wings.

A lot depends on what Bonino wants. A lot may also depend on whether or not MAF gets move. Remember, he can waive for the exp draft and not get taken. That's incredibly possible.

There is one area they need to focus on...defense. We need to bring in another top 4 dman. With the bidding that can go on with the exp draft...I make myself crazy with how many guys could potentially be available.

I think Hainsey is a rental serving a purpose. I don't see bringing him back as a necessity unless it's a last resort to get a dman in.

Teams like Minnesota and Nashville might be looking to trade a D if they decide to go the
7-3 route. Acquiring guys like Brodin/Scandella/Ekholm could be an option. Del Zotto or Kulikov could be potential reclamation projects.

It's already been stated unequivocally that NSH will protect 4D.

ANA and MIN could be options, however. I remember hearing about a possible "big trade" between the Pens and Ducks maybe around deadline time that didn't go through, so that could be something revisited in the summer, but I still don't see how we have the pieces or are good trading partners.

Duchene for Murray?

Just throwing an idea out there, not necessarily advocating it. Would you do Duchene for Murray straight up if Flower continues his play through the rest of the playoffs? I would seriously consider it I must say if Flower keeps it up. He would fit this team perfectly and could play anywhere from wing on the top-2 lines or 3rd line C.

I remember when people were offering Duchene(and many other great players) for Maatta and every pens fan said he was untouchable. Understandable after his rookie season but now look at where we are with him. Not saying Murray will head down the same path but these injuries are a Lil concerning.

Murray already won a cup and looks like he could be a top goalie in this league for years. But what happens if he gets injured a few more times? I don't think its as easy of a decision for our FO as people think. Considering what Fleury is doing , and the fact we have Jarry as well. Murray is already a fan favorite and I'd hate to lose him, but him taking a few steps back because of injuries would be even worse. Knowing what we could get for him right now. Remember when Bennett was untouchable? Despres? Something to think about.

So out of curiosity, what would you consider as a good but realistic enough trade that you would let Murray go for? It's fairly easy to identify what teams wouldn't need an elite #1 goalie, and others that would.
