I'm sure Leopold feels hard to fire a guy he hired under a year ago. After all, it also reveals his own shortcoming. But he should not be. Nobody could have expected such ****ty moves that Fenton has been able to make in his short time in charge. Fire him before it is too late!
Fire him ?????

Leopold is going to give him a raise !!!!

Fenton saved him almost 10 million bucks !!!!

Fletcher was let go because he was overrating HIS players and the Wild needed a new lens. In comes Fenton who is guilty of the very same thing with HIS Nashville guys. What's the point of bringing a new lens when that new lens is just narrowly focused as the old one?

Hard pill to swallow but this was the result of players no where near perceived value, bad contracts and the need to get younger/faster. Not happy but glad he had the guts to finally start the process.
Rask and Donato are slower than the players they were traded for.

Did you hear the story that Fenton didn't BB in the war room during the trade deadline yesterday?

Also, cap space isn't what is important in this day and age in the NHL. It's DRAFTING YOUNG PLAYERS. The NHL is an increasingly young player's game. Look at Tampa, look at Calgary.

Good players help too.

There is zero love between Fenton and BB. He really wants to bring in his own coaching staff. I'm guessing BB is let go this summer, while Dubs and Zucker are moved for peanuts.

Zucker's as good as gone, apparently the deal lined up with Calgary fell through last minute because there was a logjam at the main NHL office?

Best case scenario we were getting Sam Bennett, worst case scenario James Neal LOL.

Does BB have another year on his contract?

He will have to get the ok from our owner first. That's money swallowed.

He does and his contract isn't all that small as coaches go. If Fenton fires him Leipold's going to have to pay for it, and that'll require his okay.

You get good players by drafting them. S

Dumb. BB is the least of the problems in Minnesota.

Heard a rumor it was Neal + 1st + Kylington...possibly Frolik?

No, shouldn't be. As long as you are in contact with the office prior to the deadline, they will process you, even if it takes hours afterwards.

I'd think you would have to officially report something before the deadline though. Otherwise you could be sitting on the line for hours before one GM randomly backs out.

As long as you are on a phone line before the deadline you should be good, even if you are on hold for two hours. I don't know if a text qualifies, also.

Yah that rumor wasn't anything set in stone. Another possibility is Fenton backed out last minute because Calgary seemed pretty sure they got Zucker so I wouldn't expect them to back out. If Fenton did back out then praise the sun because that return would have been bad lol.

I figured it out. These moves are great, and almost no one realizes it. It's a long con.

Fenton will continue this for another year or two. Right around this point, Chiarelli gets rehired in Edmonton. Fenton will go to him offering Rask for McDavid, and Chiarelli will think "hell yeah, this guy is a freaking moron and only makes terrible trades, this must be another one" and instantly hit the "accept" button before being escorted out of the building.

Brilliant strategy really. Fenton is a genius.
Don't get your hopes up too much though. Once Fenton sees that he hasn't come up with a ED plan he will put our newly acquired McJesus up for for grabs because he will be taking up too much of our precious cap space.

I agree with all of this. There is a metric ton riding on Fiala doing as well or better than Granlund very, very soon. If he ends up being a 40-50 pt forward this is a gigantic mistake. And I do think that taking on that risk is worth a good pick or two.

But I have to admit that this is the sort of gamble I was hoping for months ago, and Fenton took it on a player he's very familiar with. If getting that extra certainty meant that he had to forego the adds... if it works out, so be it.

If it doesn't? Find a good place to hide the body.
What if it's 40-50g though? :sarcasm:
