Im not denying that Chiefs really didn't have a lot of options, but the two are not mutually exclusive. It can be a bad contract, but also there only viable or best option.
Lol

keep telling yourself it’s a bad contract dude. It’ll age like all your other posts about the Chiefs

There has to be some context with this statement though. On the surface, it may not work out when it comes to winning more SBs, but how does that compare with the other alternative routes that the Chiefs could have taken? Would those other routes have given them a better chance to win SBs?

There's at least proof to show that paying a top dollar for a top QB at least ensures that you're a perennial playoff contender, if not an actual SB contender. I'll take that every time over whatever is behind Curtain #2. Even drafting a QB #1 overall doesn't ensure any kind of future success. That's how scary this whole process of evaluating QBs are. If you have someone like Mahomes, you fight tooth and nail to hang onto this guy.

hasn't changed since the article was written either.

2014, 2016, 2017 = Brady made around 10% of the cap
2015 = outlier, Manning was over 10% but the star was Von Miller
2018 = Foles was under 5% of the cap
2019 = Mahomes was under 5% of the cap

Looking only at Super Bowl winners is a terrible way to manage a team.

History is on my side. So you can act like it's an outrageous claim, but that's not gunna change anything.

Mahomes won't be making $40 million in a season until 2023, and by then the cap could be at $240 million. Even though that is still ~16% (and will continue to drop as cap goes up in future years and hit cap hit remains mostly flat), if he's the absolute best player at the position, a few percentage points isn't going to matter.

Well, no not really. It can't be their only viable or best option if it ultimately prevents them from reaching their goal (to win another SB).

How about no QB has ever won a SB while accounting for more than 13% of the team's cap EVER in the salary cap era (25 years, aka nearly half the Superbowls ever)
It’s a really strange thing to keep bringing up. What is any GM supposed to do with that info? Never give a QB a second contract? Perpetually keep rolling through rookie-deal QBs and cheap journeymen vets all in the hopes of lucking into a Super Bowl win?

The point is using that history to say you are correct is meaningless if that history doesn’t provide a useful guide on what to do if you have Mahomes as your QB and are looking at your options.
