No offense to Vincent, but management let Larsen get walked all over by these players, and Vincent was apart of the staff that got walked over. I know things change when you’re the head guy, but clearly management thought a stricter message was needed.

I’m happy for Vincent. he seems like a good man. I just don’t see this being much better than Larsen even if he’s a “tactician”.

I think we all are curious how Vincent is going to react when he sees players not pulling their weight. We can't tell from his assistant experience because assistants can't discipline players or change ice time, they have no authority beyond what the HC is doing, and if the HC is a pushover then so are they. It's going to be a big test for him. I'd love to see some big scratches.

That is a bunch of crap. As a leader, coach, manager, etc. If you don’t agree it is your job to convince of another way. Just following isn’t a leader. Vincent will get walked on by players and much more of the same will happen. Larsen 2.0

So explain to me what you would have done as Larsen's assistant?

Laine got benched for a verbal altercation with Larsen when he was an assistant. I know Torts “made the call” but I have a hard time believing that Larsen would ignore a request of that sort of Vincent had one.

Not having all the information it’s hard to say….

But prima facia… I’m concerned about our team’s character and leadership

So. Welcome to cbj hockey

As anyone in leadership does find another way to get through with your ideas. Just don’t settle or just accept it.

For PP - if he wanted something different show the analytics that it isn’t working and we to try a different trigger man. Our zone entries should be changed etc.

Sure would be a heck of a story if he has success after getting passed over twice and now assuming the role after a wild weekend.

Unfortunately feel the same way about his hire as I did when Larsen got hired, but not much of a choice given the timing.

Interested to see if he brings in a vet assistant

Benching a player for not giving 100% is very different from benching a player for cursing out a coach, I think you're reaching here. I'm really not familiar with a process where assistants request benchings, maybe that happens but I'm not familiar with it.

Maybe, but it’s hard to give this team or staff the benefit of the doubt. Fair or unfair.

But regardless, I expected this when it appeared Babs was going to go. So I’m not mad about it or anything. I wish him well. He was clearly highly regarded by the management team.

I was curious to see Babcock's interpretation of what our potential best lines could have been but now things could get real interesting. For better or worse Vincent knows a lot of these guys so he probably has some idea's already in mind and we know he can be creative, maybe increases the odds of Johnson or Laine getting looks at center

Vincent being the one to do the Laine center experiment really shows a strong mind. He had a two game opportunity to fill in as coach and he went wild, that's really not expected when you're just covering for an illness.

It sounded like Babs was eager to have Laine at center (in the two center system, alongside Fantilli). I liked the two center idea, I'm curious what Vincent thinks of it.

Here's to hoping Babcock passed along his plan to reignite Patty's game .. to Vincent

Hell, I hope Vincent takes the good/interesting from what Babcock had planned and gives it all a shot.

Ok, here is my view They fired Larsen immediately after the last game. Jarmo said it was absolutely necessary to remove him because of a lackadaisical, non winning culture that developed under Larsen. I find it to be beyond rational belief to think that Pascal, Larsen’s assistant was not a part of that culture. It is a joke to me to expect another “players coach” to come in and change that culture into a ccmpetitvd culture

Hey CBJ ppl --

I'm a Zona fan, I come in peace. Just wanted to sincerely wish you all good fortune this year -- obvi this a completely shit thing to happen right before camp, but as a fan of a different team that's also dealt with a decent amount of front office nonsense, just wanted to say I'm pulling for you all to have a good season and more importantly, a good trajectory going forward with guys like Fantilli, Jiricek, KJ, Boqvist etc to go with a not too old Gaudreau, Laine, Werenski etc.

Either way, as a neutral toward CBJ I feel like in the medium to long term this is probably a good thing, everyone knows Babs is a psycho. Who knows how he would handle the young kids, I sincerely doubt he would've done it well. And this too shall pass.

Anyway best wishes, am pulling for you guys to have a great season to prove all the doubters wrong, hope we can maybe see each other in the Stanley Cup Finals in 5 years or something. Go Jackets, I hope Vincent ends up being a great coach for you guys

It’s too bad we are forced into this corner, but with the exception of Vincent not having time to prepare for his training camp, I really don’t think he’ll be Larsen 2.0. I think he’ll be significantly better than that, at least from a systems perspective.

I’ll gladly eat my words if I’m wrong, but Vincent is highly thought of by more than just those in the CBJ org, as was the case with Larsen.

No no no - No built in excuse. He has been here 2 years. I don’t want to hear this and I will gladly eat my words if I am wrong. Him and McCarthy should have been sent packing.

Goals against will still be bad, better but bad. The PP will be a little better but still finish in the back half of the league. He is average, better than Larsen but not a great coach. Players will still walk over him. I expect more of the same.

Tired of mediocrity

1) Can we just rally around this guy, fellow CBJ fans? I mean, after yet another sh*t sandwich thrown our way, nitpicking over every small detail of whether he will be 'tough' enough or how he coaches, it just doesn't seem like the most important thing here. Let's come together and rally around this the smae way we hope our players do.

Everything I've read about Vincent makes him sound like a guy who cares about his players and is a good human being (someone can update me if I'm wrong, I don't know that much about his past). That means something, even though it isn't 'winning'. We are stuck with him for better or for wrose, anyways, though?

2) I'm very glad the Babcock stuff is happening now, and there's a *hope* that it can blow over as much as possible and by the time we are half way through training camp we feel normality, and Vincent can just do his job without the circus.

3) Like I said above, I have limited knowledge of Vincent's past. From his AHL days, how is his reputation for developing 18-22 year old players?

Nope.

Tired of the city of Columbus and our Team being the brunt or punchline of jokes. Expect and demand better.

Very good, Maurice raved how the Moose players were called up and were able to jump into the system seamlessly. He mentioned how much of a great coach Vincent was on many interviews.

I think this might be a blessing in disguise for you guys.

2016-18 Head Coach, Manitoba Moose (AHL)

— 71-63-18 record in two seasons.
— 2018 Louis A.R. Pieri Memorial Award winner as AHL coach of the year.
— Led Manitoba to a 24-point improvement from first season to second in AHL.

I am in awe of all the great hockey minds on this board who already know exactly what kind of NHL head coach Vincent will be before he has coached a single NHL game. I didn't realize I was hobnobbing with such hockey genius.
He coached 2 games. ;)

Manitoba Moose :nod: This organization has already given us an excellent specialist in the past, I even remember passionate speech of Scott Howson that coach Arniel is leaving Moose to head the CBJ coaching staff:sarcasm:
