tim thomas wanted out, we complied. who knows what teams where even wanting him on the spot like that, but we were losing a goalie either way and were looking for a backup. we got one back. if anything he's just a below average backup, nothing to fret over, theres plenty of those. he's signed thru next season at 900K only. hardly a longterm commitment. if we wanna get an upgrade sometime soon, no reason we can't do that. luongo will be starting a big majority of the games anyways.

hardly see how thats "horrific". calm down a bit lol again who knows what was available at the time for him. tallon made the trade that obviously made the most sense to him. ellis hasn't even been given a real shot with us yet. could we have done better? ok, sure. but hardly "horrific"

if we gave thomas away we had clemmer as the back up and there will be some good goalies available this year. so we saddled ourselves with a below par back up for another year, lost out on a possible goalie acquisition. if luongo has any injuries we are in deep doo doo. would of rather gotten a good young back up!!! if you look at all the contending teams, they all have extremely good back up goalies who can steal games and start in case of injuries, etc. can you say that about ellis. again ask dallas fans what they think about him! it is a BIG DEAL, especially with a hopefully fringe playoff team where every game is important!

i wonder if this trade had anything to do with santos firing. $900,000 is $900,000 and i don't think another team would be willing to trade for, or pick up ellis.

Ask oilers fans what they think about Scrivens. Ask panthers fans what they think about Versteeg. Ellis arent any elite goalie but he had the same stat in Dallas as Timmy got there now, Ellis will be just another backup goalie that will win 50% of the games he plays (like clemmer had before everyone went injured). If Lu will be injured next season then we have to deal with it, but first when it happens, and then try to sign a decent backup at the 2015 UFA like Talbot (or try to get him at the deadline). We cant really trade a 2nd pick or a prospect for a good backup goalie like Andersen.
