Good question..

Really depends on who gets moved. AS it stands,

Yandle Ekblad
Matheson Pysyk
McCoshen Brown/Weegar

If it's a one to one swap, then Pysyk should be moved who is a right shot. If everyone stays, then we need Pysyk to get moved down so a right shot.

If Matheson is somehow packaged, then we need a left shot D.

Justin Faulk is signed through 2020 like Hoffman and would slide in above Pysyk. Slight drop in cap hit from Hoffman but slight increase in salary for 2019-20.

What would need to be added to Faulk for Hoffman? This seems like the type of hockey trade the GM Borg have been looking for.

The fact that people are saying he has character issues when the allegations (against his gf, not him mind you) were dropped due to lack of evidence is unfortunate.

Karlsson and his wife should have taken way more heat than they did. Ruined a girls credibility and uprooted a familys life by going public with allegations with no evidence.

Would the Panthers be looking to shed salary, shed cap, or just looking to make room for Panarin? Would Faulk for Hoffman work as a base? He’s got a year left at $4.5M cap but actually makes about $6M in payroll.

Hoffman plays a one-way game. Not a player that will give you much on the defensive end. Not surprised Florida is giving up on him.

Ill let you know after tonights game

Cap space isnt an issue at all right now. We'll have 2o plus available without making moves. As far as actual salary expenditure, you never know with these owners to be honest.

As for Hoffman, there’s been some talk he could be bundled by the Panthers in a big package offer to the Blue Jackets for Panarin. Perhaps that could be tied to the Jackets’ rumored interest in Duchene. I’m not saying they’ll flip Hoffman to the Senators but perhaps if they can land the Panthers’ first-round pick in this year’s draft perhaps they’ll package that with a young player and a prospect for Duchene.

Wow if we were able to land Hoffman+Duchene for Panarin+Florida futures that would be neat

Florida is looking for a more defensive defenseman. They already have Ekblad and Yandle. Doubt they want a guy like Faulk.

Carolina. Just makes too much sense, move him for a good RHD.

Move out one of their own RHD for picks/prospects.

Deal around Hoffman for Pesce.
Pysyk for 2nd + prospect.

You add a bit of cash onto the back end, but get much better.

Hoffman saga was dropped because EK and his wife wanted it to end.

He's had a history since Juniors of being a difficult teammate. Wives and GFs wanted nothing to do with his GF. They were vocal to avoid them altogether. Just being available after less than a season is another concern.

However, he is a good player...the allegations should be a concern. I just don't believe there will be a much of a demand.

It makes a ton of sense. They are stacked with forwards and want to move out cap with the expectation of getting Panarin. He is the obvious choice. He should get a solid return and if they can move him before Stone they could get out ahead of the market.

Clearly they'd like a RHD with a defensive mindset but those are really hard to come by

Isn't this saying that there is a chance Hoffman would be headed back to Ottawa?

Reading comprehension....

Doubt you see Carolina dealing Pesce, a top pairing RD signed through 2024 at $4M per, for 1.25 years of Hoffman. Faulk+ is probably going to be the offer from Carolina. With a major addition from Florida I could see Hamilton, although he's been playing very well this calendar year and turned into what Carolina hoped they were getting.

I thought Pesce+ made sense when there were ridiculous rumors about Huberdeau being on the block. Doesn't make sense for a short-term contract.
