Laine will get Ovie next year (maybe...)

So we are getting one 50 goal scorer again?

I'll say two at least. Oilers are pretty much done. I can see Hitchcock pairing McDavid/Draisaitl together and telling them to go out there and just pile up the points.

I can really see McDavid doing his best to get Draisaitl 50 goals.

Kane and Dr Drai might actually make it a interesting finish this year.

So exciting :tvhappy:

Ovi is now the only player on pace for 50.. What happened to the huge leap in goal scoring this year...? Everyone seems to have slowed their pace..

Goals aren't assists, it's hard to get even 50.

Umm... cool? What does that have to do with my point? I'm not making a case for goals being easy to score or that 50 is easy... We had a ton of players off to hot starts this year that cooled. That's the point.

Anyway, this was the pace earlier this year:

Yep. On November 24th of last year with a quarter of the season done, we had 11 players on pace to score 50 goals:

Pastrnak
Skinner
Ovechkin
Point
Laine
Forsberg
Atkinson
Landeskog
Tavares
MacKinnon
Pettersson

These three were on pace for 49 goals:

Pavelski
Draisaitl
McDavid

Looking at Jack Hammer's post and I still don't get how Laine dropped off that hard. He looked like a lock for 50.

He went from 21 goals in his first 24 games to 8 goals in his last 47 games since then. :dunno:

Game really tightens up the closer we get to playoffs. Its why Laine disappears in the later half of the season.

Yeah, sorry didn't explain it well. It's obvious that goals are harder to get, but my point is about how hard is to reach 50. At the end of season goalscorers are covered better because everyone knows how many they've scored while playmakers still have tons of options on the ice. I'd say, after 35-40 goals, players deserved personal coverage. That's why close to the end goalscorers usually cooling off. IMO

Not really sure what you’re trying to say in this post

I understand it. Poster is saying that IF Crosby wanted to score 50 goals every season he would. But so far he has only WANTED to do it that one time.

50 goals is not guaranteed for Ovechkin, I just hope he wants it bad enough.
