Things aren't going too well for the BJs right now. Johansen is still holding out, Horton has a degenerative back condition and no one knows when he'll back, and now Jenner breaks his hand and Portzline says he'll be out for at least a month. That's their entire first line.

Ya, well, they lead the preseason. Game over man, they're going to make the playoffs.

I honestly forgot Horton even plays for them.

Pretty shameful IMO the Bruins forced a 40 point defenseman, and a 20 goal, 50 point winger into signing low ball $1.4M deals just because they didn't want to trade a guy they clearly won't re-sign next summer in Boychuk.

$1.4M is absolutely ridiculous for player like that.

Cap circumvention?

Have to assume that they'll be getting healthy raises on the extensions that'll get announced in January, or whenever the CBA allows. If those kids weren't promised fat pay bumps to accept these deals I'll be shocked.

They definitely could, but it's not like the Bruins can afford to give both big overpayments on their next deal to compensate for for the low ball deals they gave them. They still have the cap to worry about going forward.

So far the cap hasn't really hurt them and they've found many ways to get around it. These current deals for Krug and Smith just the latest addition to techniques.

Have to admit Hayes has looked ok.

Sure did. Not sure why so many people were worried about him. You could see how smart a player he was last year, he wasn't just getting by on his size. Add that to a big body that can skate ok, has good hands, is good defensively, and has good character, and it's almost a no brainer he'd be a good NHLer.

Kind of annoying since he's kinda the prototypical center this team needs for the 3rd line. A Hayes-Bleackley combo on the 3rd line for the next 5 years would have been pretty strong, but oh well.

A made a lot of jokes about him cause so many Avs fans on here we're getting so hot n heavy for him without every seeing him that it would've been such an Avs thing for him to actual choice us and end up Hensick/Lindstrom 2.0

Didn't see him myself so don't have an actual opinion on him, just thought how adored he became in some quarters was funny.

They'll let someone leave in FA from that dcorp with Hamilton and krug putting another year under their belts, the cap should go up, and they'll figure something new out.

I'll be surprised if those two don't get healthy deals announced for next summer as soon as the CBA allows.

Yeah they have under 15m left to pay 12 players next year. But they'll find a way, they always do.

Sacco is an assistant coach with Bruins. How did I miss this?

It's a shame the Sabres brought him in a year to early and then fire him before he could get the job done. I'd have loved for him to overcome that Buffalo luck and secure their choice of McEichel.

Watching the Boston game and Sacco is being interviewed. Lots of I think's, not sure, and extremely standard answers. No personality. Lots of uh's and oohs in-between too.

Sounds un-sure and incompetent in a way, or nervous.

New York took Duclair with its third third-round pick (80th overall) in 2013. There were teams who shied away, wondering why Colorado — picking 63rd — did not take him, since he played for Patrick Roy with the Quebec Remparts. Whatever the reason, the Rangers’ decision looks intelligent.

Is it just worded weird or is Friedman saying other teams shied away because Roy, who coached him, apparently didn't want him? Isn't that what they pay their scouts for?

Lots of hype around this kid. IIRC, there were quite a few people here also wondering why we didn't take him.

I think he (and Erne, who Avs passed in the second round) were suspended by Quebec at one time and Duclair dropped in the draft because of his personality.
