Scar face would be fun but I rather not get another coach that got his NHL head coaching training from the old southeast division. Maclean would be my only choice for a veteran coach. Ottawa did a lot of overachieving. He is fiery. At least I will be entertained.

Guy Boucher as our head coach would "entertain" more than Walrus-face ever could.

I would absolutely not give up a pick for him.

Just hold off until Monday, please Ray!

If a hire is made before June 1st, it's gonna be Paulrus, Oates, or Dineen (on Sunday if Chicago is eliminated on Saturday).

I'd give up a pick for MacLean. A ****ing toothpick that is. Maybe he can use it to pick some of the food that's been in his stache for months.

Or an old and deteriorated guitar pick.

**** all these overhyped Babcock peasant's. Carolina also hired one last season.

I hear the guy who mows Bab's grass is looking for an NHL head coaching position.

We have three third round picks in the next years draft. It wouldn't worry me if we lost one of them as compensation for hiring a head coach

As long as it isn't for some BUM like Paul MacLean.

Wouldn't even take him for free.

Why do you vehemently dislike him?

Because he's OVERRATED!

Ottawa wasn't a very good possession team at all when he was there. And this is the ONLY head coaching stint at the NHL level that we can judge him on. His Jack Adams came from unsustainably high goaltending.

Am I saying he's definitely a bad coach? Not necessarily.

But I don't wanna take a chance on him. Pass him by and look for someone else.

I'd rather take a chance on a guy with an 0-0 record than Paul MacLean. All these Babcock guys get overrated because of their connections to him.

And Ottawa is a complete disgrace and a joke if they asked for compensation for this guy. Any team that's hiring this guy, is doing them a favor. A budget team that asks for a draft pick to unload 2 years of a contract they would otherwise have to eat, is complete and utter *********.

You want compensation for taking on a guy that's a burden on your payroll for 2 more years, who will be siting at home and doing nothing? Then take a hike!

If a coach gets fired, I think it's ludicrous to try and receive compensation for such. If a coach wants to, and is allowed to speak to other teams, it is pretty much along the same lines. Now I understand if the coach is in the team's plans for the future, that is one thing. But this is really ridiculous if you ask me.

Also, I'd rather Boucher and not give up a pick, than another coach in which we have to give up a pick. I don't think it's the coach that is holding our team back from anything great.

Wasn't the last coach we had from the AHL Maclean?

You want ridiculous...I'm almost positive that Bylsma was fired BEFORE the GMs even voted in this new compensation rule. So today...pitt collects an extra pick for a coach they fired over a year ago...under a system that didn't exist yet.

One coach isn't going to fix us, but I don't think we should avoid hiring somebody just because we might have to give up a pick for him. I want the best guy for the job. If that's Hynes and we need to give up a pick, so be it.

I am just relieved that we're not hiring Bylsma.

Dude is the perfect coach for a futile Buffalo franchise.

Futile means not being able to produce a useful result. Futile was the decade they spent trying to win with a flawed team instead of committing to a rebuild and drafting high (where the good players are). Drafting 8-14 year after year. That was futile. Continuing to throw years away banging your head against the floor of the playoffs. ... Who am I telling...

Pens fan here.

I don't think you would have to give compensation for Hynes if you hire him as an assistant, I'm not really familiar with the rule but it is my understanding that the rule applies to General Manager/Head coach positions.

You would have to give Washington a pick for Reirden, as he would be your new head coach, but if Hynes was hired as an assistant, I'm not sure the Pens could be compensated.

I don't know where you got the idea we were looking for him as an assistant when we don't have a HC yet. They're clearly mentioning Hynes as a HC candidate because of the Shero connection. And yeah I do think the Pens would ask for compensation considering Rutherford got ripped for not getting any for Shero and he later got it for a fired coach in Bylsma. In actuality the rule was supposed to work for guys like Hynes in fact so I'm sure he'd want compensation in this case.

I'm not big on giving up a third rounder for anyone when all the candidates are so questionable at this point - but our last third rounder was Connor Chatham so...

We are now at the "When you have time you use it." stage No other jobs are open which means the Devils dont need to compete with anyone for their next HC.

So it really could be a couple weeks before we hear anything in this front.

Funny that San Jose asks for compensation and then we DON'T ask them to give up anything when they hire a fired coach? Shero was a blessing but then if they comeback and ask for a 3rd - I'd counter offer and say we won't try to steal away Paul Martin (or we will if that's what they want)...

Who wants Paul Martin?................................thought so. I hope to God Shero doesn't bring that softie back here.

Someone will that's for sure but like you, I'm hoping that it is NOT us. I'm on board the Johnny Oduya train.....

I'd rather pay Oduya $4m per year for 3 years than Paul Martin....

I'm sure there is a simple answer but it is escaping me at the moment

The Sabres gave up a pick for Bylsma. So no pick from the Sharks for us?

Even better - the Sharks received a pick from Edmonton for McClellan....yet don't; give up one for Deboer.
