My last name's Wilson so I like him even more than I already do...a player of that ilk is almost mandatory for a cup run and paired with a "gives a ****" Ovechkin gives us two seek and destroy thoroughbreds who can alter a game or series with brute physicality. I'm a longtime DC sports homer and have been saying for a while, "the Caps are the only game in town". They are a bonafide, homegrown contender...

Let's get over the hump together and finish what we've started...

I'm not gonna get too stoked in December about a hockey team in DECEMBER but I've felt good about them since last deadline and want them to take a "let's ****ing win this thing" mindset...take your best shot at the Cup and if you come up short...so be it. The time to go all in is now...

They should just go ahead and put Wilsoning in the rule book officially.

You mean change the name of it? It's there already. 'Attempt to injure an opponent.'

That's the rule that allows the refs to kick out a player for throwing a big clean check. Reputation call.

Braden Holtby looks insanely good. Playoff mode already at this stage, and if he can keep up performing even close to this, he's going to run away with the Vezina. 121 wins and points in 140 of his first 203 career games, he's going to rack up some nice wins totals in his career as the team in front of him is only going to get better. Just turned 26 aswell so that long-term contract looks like a brilliant move by GMBM for now. Needs 28 more wins this season to surpass Martin Brodeur's record for most wins by a goalie ever in an NHL season, and with the way he's playing, that actually seems possible. MVP for sure.

They played a perfect game for 55 minutes and even with the gift to Sens from the refs, they still managed to get the regulation win. Tom Wilson seemed to get really angry when Hammond robbed him. After that in short span of time, he had 3 huge clean hits on Karlsson, Turris and Lazar. The hit on Lazar could be argued as kind of cheaply (engaged with other guy, didn't expect the hit) but nevertheless, it was clean. If the NHL back years ago would have decided to start punishing players for those unsuspecting hits, Niklas Kronwall would no longer be in the league, as that's his speciality.

Great game from Michael Latta too. Being waiting for him to show some of that offensive ability ever since he was traded. He had really nice numbers playing for Preds AHL team back then so he has potential to be very good 4th liner.

Absolutely love the uniforms. Made me smile tonight seeing those jerseys and another win. Ottawa always gives the Caps fits and Holtby is insane.

Go Caps!

Gonna say this right here right now, forget Tom Wilsons points. He's an impact player. He changes games, tonight the NHL chose to punish him for being a clean effective hitter but whatever..the guy is a game changer and he's everything we've been missing as a franchise since the 98 Cup run. We haven't had the Chief or Killer or a Simon or whoever your nostalgia ass kicker is in a long time. Fear us. We're coming :)

GO CAPS GO

:handclap: and we have a goalie too.

Wilson annoyes the opposition every bit as much as Avery used to without having to do anything dirty.

I think its also clear from that interview just how smart a guy he is. He knows exactly what he is doing and what he I supposed to be doing. Put 20 goals a year in that guy's column and finding budget to pay him might be a problem down the road.

He just added another team to the list ones that despise him. Looked pretty obvious that he got under the skin of the Sens team when he first drilled their captain and best player in Karlsson with a big clean hit and then taunted the Sens bench when he was going for a change.

Although that taunting was most likely a response for Neil/Borowiecki yelling to him from the bench.

Wilson is a treat to watch and big asset to have on your team in a 7-game playoff series.

I think fans of opposing and of the team can sometimes take for granted how much a player like Wilson changes the game. he draws penalties, he makes the other team cough the puck up or make quicker plays than normal. They fear him, and it makes his own team more confident with him out there.

That's right. He can change momentum in a game, and even a series, with a big hit or fight when the team isn't playing with intensity. Sucks that he's clearly being targeted by the refs, but I think his potential positive impact on games clearly outweighs the risk.

Overpaying effective 4th liners is a great way to get into cap hell. See every team that wins a cup on the strength of its role players.

Unless Wilson puts up better numbers he should never be making more than 2m a year on short term deals.

Wilson had a huge hit in the Isles series last year. He had a major impact last night. Total ******** call.

Tom and Trotz were both perfect in their responses.

Just win the ****ing cup.

Caps lead the NHL in the most important team stat: Goals against.

Don't agree? Look up the last 6 Stanley cup winners and see where they ranked at the end of the regular season in goals against.

Disagree with what exactly? Scoring more\allowing less goals than opposition is the whole point of game.

I gotta say, against Tampa the Caps looked good in the 2+ periods that I watched, one of the best performances in the last... many games. And by good I mean especially in terms of team speed, the one component that makes me uneasy in terms of SC prospects.

And though I criticized Latta coming in for Galiev, hard to argue with the results. Maybe next step should be Bura-Latta-Galiev :)
