So, since the first exhibition game is tonight and it looks like the 67's team is pretty well set, I thought I would start a new thread. I can't remember an off season where so much has happened with the 67's. I guess when you have a coach for 30 some years that happens....

Anyway I came up with these changes.

Front Office
Out
Byrne GM
Byrne HC
Donskov Assoc. Coach
Crickard Asst. Coach

IN
Higgins GM
Brown HC
Eastwood Asst. Coach

Roster
OUT
Trudeau
Van Stralen
Gustavsen
Fielding
Connor Brown
Urbanic
Dulong
Groulx (soon)
Davis (soon)
Guy (soon)

IN
Lazarev
Barron
Tyanulin
Addisson
Todd
McDonald
Mercer
Pittman
William Brown
Mete (Soon ?)

Looking to be an exciting yar.

Interesting speculation regarding the defense. I am not sold on any of it though. Davis, to me, is the only one of the 10 that are leaving for sure. I am not sure he proved enough the last two years for the 67s to find a team for him but he can play as a #7 veteran. By all accounts he is a good team guy and can fill a role without being a distraction.

Pittman comes in with some fanfare but it is not like he is an NHL drafted player. He has some size and mobility but I doubt he is a sure fire top 4 D-Man.

Mercer has some size but at 17 with no OHL experience, he may be hard pressed for minutes. Same goes for Brown.

Victor Mete is still on the radar. The question is whether the 67s can flip a couple D-Men for picks to use in that deal to acquire him. I think the 67s will be showcasing a couple guys this weekend and will also try to get a feel who is ready to step in.

Up front is pretty much set. I think the top 10 is pretty much a no brainer. It is whether AAA can weasel his way in ther or not. He needs to step up with this new opportunity he has.

Goaltending is what it is. It will be up to Herbst and Lazarev to get the job done.

Still an OA spot open too.

I would probably add at least one of Graham, Fanjoy, Mcdonald to be cut or sent down as we still have 15 forwards. My guess is they start the season with 13 so probably 2 are gone.

Fielding has been out with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Q.

The Ottawa / Gatineau game has been postponed with some kind of electrical problem.

It will be interesting to see how many bodies they have to start the year. It is not like there will be anyone at NHL camp when the regular season starts.

I still smell a trade or two brewing. Too much talk about Mete as well.

If the top 10 are as I say, then you have to think AAA, McDonald, Fanjoy, Groulx and Graham will battle for the last spots.

With the extra defense, I would think they would keep eight in the short term especially with Vlajkov oft-injured.

It is funny though. I can usually project trade value pretty close. This year I have no idea of the trade value in terms of picks for guys like Vlajkov, Duchesne and Guy. I would imagine these three would be the ones that are most expendable with the highest trade value but I have no clue of their real worth.

I agree there's gonna be trades but aside from a possible Mete trade nothing imminent as teams are evaluating what they have and might wait a few weeks into the season.
As for trade value of the three you mentionned I don't see it as too high. Guy is a pretty unidimensional player and a team looking for a pp specialist might cough up a 4th. Problem with Vlajkov is despite being a nineteen year old he has not had a chance to show a lot due to injuries, a 3rd/ 4th?Duchesne well I hope they keep him but he might get the highest value as only 18 and adds toughness so maybe a 3rd.
Their best bet might be to package two to a team lacking depth on the blue line...Petes,Fronts come to mind.

The Petes could use one defender and certainly have the picks to get such a deal done. I would have interest in Vlajkov or Duschene.

You need to have at least one really solid PP Quarterback, preferably two. Right now those two would be Vlajkov and Guy. In a perfect world, we could get rid of one but for now, especially with Vlajkov's questionable health, we probably need to keep both.

Lintuniemi showed more promise in the 2nd half of the year offensively. There is potential there. If he shows he can carry a more offensive load, then that opens another door.

Middleton doesn't seem to be the guy to lead the charge offensively. He can chip in but he is more of a get the puck out of the zone smartly sorta puck mover.

Pittman has some skill and maybe he can produce some offence but I am thinking he is more like Middleton. Until I see him in action, I will have to keep a reserved approach to expectations.

We know what Duchesne is. HE is your 5th - 6th guy that can handle himself in a scrap and should also build on his defensive coverage this year. Henley seems similar with a little more upside. Henley seems a little more assertive whereas Duchesne lets the game come to him a little too much.

Potentially, we could see Guy as the 12th forward and PP QB. The only problem there is that we do have some younger guys that could use that 8-10 minutes of ice per game to get some experience.

I just don't see Mercer and Brown sticking with the club. At 16 and 17, they will probably get sent down. If other D-Men increase their value and we can ship them off for picks that have meaning then that may open a spot or two.

Victor Mete is interesting of course. I wonder how active Ottawa is on that front. It is strange that he hasn't been traded yet. Clearly Owen Sound has not received a serious offer. This is not a player that is bluffing about NCAA. He's gonna go there if not traded to one of 4 or 5 teams. It is strange how quiet it has been in that regard. Ten days until that window closes.

I doubt Mercer signed as a 17 yo without same assurance he would not be sent down, just guessing though. Barring a trade I see Davis released and Brown sent down probably to return in January.

How is Vlajkov defensively?

How is Vlajkov defensively?
Vlajkov missed the whole season last year. He has promise but we will need to wait through the first 7-10 games to see what kind of game he has now.

He was a solid skater with good puck skills. Wasn't bad defensively but not a defensive stalwart by any means. Not physical either. Although, not a pushover.

I had him as a really important player for us last year. This year? I dunno.

Victor Mete has to be traded by September 15th. I have also heard that Peterborough Petes are in the running for Mete. They have the draft picks to make a deal for him. I would prefer to save the picks for a veteran defenceman or a goalie, as the Petes are a contender this year. The Petes actually have a good defence this year. They have four returning defencemen and Dominik Masin is going to be a star. Artem Vladimirov and Matthew Timms are up and coming defenceman. They likely need another veteran defencemna. They will want to trade for a player that will play in their top four defence pairings.

Agree with you Petes have the picks galore for Mete but not a fit this year. They need to contend now, go for goaltending and experienced D. Gotta go for it while you've got Ritcjie and Garlent.

Ok 10 min in the pre season but just love Barron 3 crushing hits one assist! Maybe Byrne does have an eye for talent. Certainly can't fault him for taking Konecny.

Game impressions!
Well quite impressed with Barron, if he keeps it up its gonna be hard to keep him off the top 6 by year end. Also liked Todd looks like a solid top 9 as he should be as a 19 yo. As for Tyanulin invisible all night then bang! I'll settle for that...let's see one touch, one goal times68=??? Ah well nice to dream. Brown and Mercer looked good...some vets are on the outs...

My first impression is that we have added size and skill. Vlajkov, Bradford, Bell, Konecny did not play, but that makes sense.

Barron looks like he is a player. Good size, physical.

AAA threw three hits in 2 shifts, surpassing last year's total, but he continues to avoid the front of the net on the rush. One of his hits was a very bad-looking shot from behind, but I did see effort.

Pittman is pretty solid defensively and plays it tough along the boards.

Todd scored a beauty off a massive rebound. He saw the goalie sliding over and blew the perfect shot into the top of the net. He struggled late in the game as the increased speed of play caught up to him. Mercer seemed to slow up as well.

Henley looks bigger and more physical this year, much less tentative in his own zone.

Tyanulin seems to be that quick-strike scorer that we have been missing. Not big, but has slick moves and a bit of an attitude.

Addison looks like a solid pickup.

Salituro hurt in the first and did not return.

Herbst look very solid and ... massive.

Decent effort

I was pleasantly surprised by Barron, he looked very good being it was his first OHL exhibition game and I also was pleased with Herbst as he seems much healthier. Macdonald , Tyanulin and Todd seemed good for rookies.

The team seemed abit new to each other but that is to be expected.....can't wait to see how they are playing in October after some more time together.

Playoff team Yes passed first round? Time will tell.
