You only wanted brannstrom over mete on the pp? What about when down and trying to tie it up? Which was probably more than half the time. Brannstrom is way more likely to make a sweet pass to set up a goal or put a clapper in from the point.

It's not just when you have a pp that you'd rather brannstrom, it's ANY time you need offense because he's several times better offensively.

Sure, when we're up in the game, then we'd rather have mete, but in case no one noticed, we hardly ever play with the lead.
Never liked him more at even strength, got hemmed in his zone too much. Mete got the puck out controlled way better, while typically playing with Brown or Zaitsev. Meanwhile Brannstrom had Zub to outlet to.

Great signing; improves Ottawa's chance of landing Wright in next year's draft
Habs fans sure are cocky, cant wait to see them toil at the bottom of the division this year.

Sure, unless down by a goal or more. Then you want the more offensive guy even if he's worse defensively.

The defensive D essentially tries to keep the score the same. Not allow a goal but not try to score a goal. If you're down, that's status quo and you still lose the game.

If down by a goal or more, the offensive guy might allow a goal but might also score a goal. If he scores you tie the game. If they score, you still lose...aka status quo.

So if down, you want the player that makes more things happen, good and bad, because at least there's a chance you can tie the game, even if they might also score on you. Same thing as pulling the goalie essentially.

If down by a goal late in the game, even if even strength, you want brannstrom over mete and it's not even close.

I agree with that sentiment of course you want the better offensive player out there. I dont think Brannstrom was better offensively at even strength, guy couldnt handle a forcheck if you are stuck in your own zone you cant attack. At even strength Mete got the puck out controlled to the forwards better, he was able to escape forchecks very well. Gave the team a better chance to score.

This guy cracked the Habs roster as a teenager, what the hell happened to him?

He cracked it because or Genious GM Bergevin traded Sergachev, let Markov go, and signed UFA Alzner.... The left side of the D was empty, and Mete impressed at the camp with his skating and mobility..... That's all he has. He has no shot, doesn't hit at all, is too small.... OK bottom pairing and extra d-man. Nor much more.

Ottawa will fight for a Playoffs spot this season. They had a tremendous season ending and their young players are awesome.

Probably better for them if they just tanked instead. Wright is gonna be awesome for any team to have.

The meme for Mete was ...you're not a serious playoff team if Mete is your top 4. Or even top 6.

I don't know why this would be any sort of discussion. We just saw a month ago how physical the plaoffs are yet some think he's a good signing. Sure, as a filler and not much more.

On the Habs, we have an army of D prospects coming that would use Mete as target practice.

Whatever....he got a 1 year contract and good for him.
