Nikola Kalinic (free agent) signs for Hajduk Split for the remainder of the season with a salary of 1 euro  Weird thing was he was playing for Hajduk last season and pretty much took a six month hiatus

Turkish league strikes again

Israeli striker lost his job and was arrested by the police, where he is still held, for showing this message commemorating the Hamas attack in Israel. He should know better than to do that in a country that mostly supports Hamas, but still.

Some notes on this:

Both Genk (for the Anderlecht v Genk game) and Club Brugge (for the KV Mechelen v Club Brugge game) filed a complaint

1) Genk got a penalty in the game against Anderlecht, missed but scored on the rebound, the goal was waved off because a Genk player entered the box too early (an Anderlecht player did as well but the VAR "did not see him" even though it was clear as day on the screen)

2) Club Brugge striker Thiago scored the (what might have been) game winning goal at Mechelen a couple of minutes before the end of the game. It was ruled out for offside, which it wasn't because there was a Mechelen defender near the sideline putting Thiago onside. The VAR also "did not look" at that player.

In both instances the VAR f***ed up because they did not look at the player they needed to. But the court made different ruling on both cases... who knows why?
Even though I hate Anderlecht I hope they win their appeal because a precedent like this would be extremely dangerous and would have lawyers come in and argue about 50 games per season should be replayed because of mistakes like this

Could set a weird precedent, not the same sport but I remember in baseball you could protest a game but very rarely was it ever replayed (the most famous one was the “pine tar” game at Yankees Stadium) and with the implementation of challenges it’s gone away

Then and there
Rangers go top of the table in Scotland. James Tavernier with two great penalties, taking his goal total for the club to 120. Pretty good for a FB/WB, even if most of those come from set pieces.

Reports in China have claimed Li Tie, who spent four years at Everton between 2002 and 2006, has been sentenced to life in prison.

During a crackdown on corruption in football, the Chinese public prosecutor accused Li of "accepting and offering bribes" between 2019 and 2021.

The 46-year-old reportedly confessed to paying £330,000 in bribes to become manager of the Chinese national team, while he admitted to playing a role in a match-fixing scandal to win promotions while in charge of Hebei China Fortuna and Wuhan Zall.

Surely somebody is also getting punished for demanding and accepting those bribes, right...

Turkey is always good for entertainment. After their players were attacked on the pitch, Fenerbahce started a war against the federation, so tonight in the Supercup they sent their U19 team in, and when Galatasaray scored they took their team off the pitch, after less than 2 minutes.
