lol the Belgian League is crazy this year

Already over one third of the games played and there are 7(!) teams (could be 8 if the 8th placed team wins their game in hand) within two points of eachother
Club Brugge are leading the league on goal difference but they have been mostly disappointing and pretty weak in home games (no fans seem to hurt them a lot) while Anderlecht, Genk and Standard have not been impressive either but grind out good enough results to keep up. Newly promoted teams Beerschot and Leuven are huge surprises - Beerschot are the most fun team in the league, they have the best attack and worst defense :D scored 33, conceded 30, in 12 games. Yesterday for example they tied Kortrijk 5-5

Malmö have won the Swedish League, three years after their last win. With a 4-0 win over Sirius they now have a 10 point lead over Elfsborg with only three games left. It's their 5th title in the previous 8 seasons.
Fun fact: (if it holds) for the second year running the top goalscorer of the league is a loanee from the Belgian League. Last year Djurgarden striker Mohamed Turay (Djurgardens) won it which earned him a transfer to China, now Malmö striker Isaac Thelin leads the race, he should return to Anderlecht in January but he's got no future there so maybe Malmö will try to buy, Anderlecht could use the $$$

On the other end of the league standings, IFK Göteborg are in some serious relegation danger, just three points seperate them from Kalmar who are currently in a relegation play-off spot.

FK Bodø/Glimt are champions of Norway, their first title in existence and also the first time ever a team located above the arctic circle has won a championship in football.

They're having an impressive season no matter what; 85 goals scored in 25 games (won 22 and only lost 1) and have an 18 point lead over reigning champions Molde with 5 games left.
Also almost eliminated Milan in the Europa League last month, and they're doing it with barely any foreign players in their squad.

If only our stupid board could take the hint that poor Neil Lennon is ridiculously out of his depth and put him out of his misery. A textbook case of why giving a club legend the coaching gig is generally a very bad idea.

I think we will have to wait for a while to see which team will be the first one to win a title within the Antarctic circle.

Shakhtyor Soligorsk won the Belarussian league, their 2nd title (last one was in 2005). They did it scoring in the 92nd minute, they added another one in the 98th while BATE failed to win their match. BATE have failed to win the title for the 2nd season in a row after winning every title from 2006-2018

Celtic dropped points at home to St. Johnstone, hard to see Lennon around much longer, they have been awful in Europe as well albeit a tough group

Are Brugge capable of beating Lazio? When was the last time a Belgian team reached the last 16 and did it happen often in the last say 30 years?

On a good day they're capable, I would set the odds at about 70-30 for tomorrow though in favor of a Lazio win. Lazio are at home and don't HAVE to win.

And no it doesn't happen often, Gent did it in 2015-16 when they finished 2nd in a group with Zenit, Valencia and Lyon but then lost to Wolfsburg. Before that I think you have to go back all the way to maybe 2002 when Anderlecht reached the 2nd round (which then was the second group stage).

Estudiantes haven’t scored since footy game back. 6 games not a single goal 540 minutes. Haven’t won since February 1st. At the very least Dario Sarmiento looks good. Ayala too

Wow. Champion's League away day next year (assuming fans are allowed back) just got more interesting.

Argentina have 3 of the 4 semi finalists in copa sudamericana. Long shot but we can have an all Argentinian final in both Sudamericana and at the Lib.

Well it's actually not very impressive considering the level of opposition and in the same time the team lost key games to the likes of Cluj Ferencvaros SpartaPrague Copenhagen...
