VOORHEES – The plan for Oskar Lindblom wasn't for these last few days participating in Flyers development camp to be his first in the United States.

The plan for the Flyers youngest prospect, who doesn’t turn 18 until August, was to leave home in Sweden two weeks ago for Philadelphia.

The plan was to be in the stands at Wells Fargo Center hearing an NHL team announce his name as its the first- or second-round pick in the 2014 NHL draft.

That’s what was expected before this nice-sized left winger with impressive offensive skills went out last season and played his way into being a late rounder.

Lindblom picked by PHI did not have the best draft season, but he's talented. Came into the season as clear top 30-40 guy.

HockeyProspect cliffnotes:

He’s a smart skilled forward with the ability to make plays, but he lacks in the skating department. The good news is it appears his skating is improving.

Oskar is a true offensive talent. You might recall his performance at the 2013 World U-17 Chal- lenge where he posted 13 points including 8 goals in 6 games. Oskar displays excellent hands and makes plays with the puck that show off his level of skill. He has shown us the ability to beat goal- tenders on a regular basis.

He sometimes lacked effort along walls in attempting to win battles for pucks, being a little slow a foot didn’t help his cause...His positioning is good all over the ice.

Lindblom excels with the puck on his stick. He has great puck handling skills and has above aver- age skill both scoring and playmaking.

EDIT: He's also very young. Like this pick a lot, too. Very pleased with this draft.

Also, he aint 6'0 flat.

More like 6'2 now.

I like this one, in the 5th that is a steal.

He looked slightyl out of his depth in the 1 SHL game I have seen him in.

But in u18 internationals he looked absolutely brutal to play against. Good skater, though not that fast, gritty, can defend, can score... an absolute pain in the arse to defend against.

U18 Internationals this season:

27GP, 13G, 14A, 27P, +15

J20 this season:

43GP, 13G, 20A, 33P, +2

He was also an assistant captain age 17 in the J20.

And he was Swedens best player at u17 level in 2012-13:

18GP, 18G, 16A, 34P, +5... was also Captain of Sweden u17.

Hockey Prospect ranked him #60

Summary:

-All about skating for Lindblom (lacks in this area)
-Smart and skilled
-Skating is improving and a quote from an NHL scout said that he was working with a skating coach (good sign)
-A true offensive talent
-Excellent hands and good goal scoring ability
-Has to work on his all around game a little bit

Flyers love Brynäs players.

Played in the last two U18s. Thought of highly in Sweden at least.

is he a power forward?
The NHL lists him at both 6-0 and 6-1 while HF has him at 6-2 in the following link and analysis:

Talent Analysis

Lindblom goes hard to the net and likes to stick around once there. He’s someone who offers up his body in the corners and in the slot. Decent hands in tight and does have an eye for finding his linemates. Can play a corner rotation game. A player who is ready to go where it hurts and take punishment to make things happen. Lindblom is defensively aware and plays the game in all three zones. Sometimes shows some above-average cleverness and tends to enjoy the trust of his coaches.

Lindblom is not particularly fast nor a skater whose agility and movement sticks out at you. Seems to make no impact from more than 5-10 feet within the goal. Not a player who makes things happen much, but more a benefactor who can complement better skill players. Tends not to make an impact in games where his team needs players to step up. Lindblom has decent size, but doesn’t necessarily have a frame conducive to the addition of a lot of weight.

Another late riser in that in the beginning he did not do well but finished very strong.

Love this pick

I've said it many times but i think he's the most offensively talented Swede after Nylander in this draft. Did not have a great season but has been awarded with a contract by the senior team and i think he'll get loads of playing time in the SHL this year.

I'll try to keep you posted on him.
