Zetterberg - Larkin - Tatar
Nyquist - Nielson - Mantha
Abdelkader - Helm - Bertuzzi
Athanasiou -Sheahan - Svechnikov
Frk

*Gledening probably won't return from shoulder surgery in time to start the season.
When LGD comes back, Svechnikov back to GR if he isn't showing enough

Dekeyser - Green
Kronwall - Jensen
Ouellet - Campbell/Girardi/Hainsey
Ericsson

So dekeyser and Daley together, possibly. Who would pair with green?

At last season it was:

Shut-down pair:
DeKeyser - Green

Offensive zone pair:
Kronwall/Smith - Jensen/Russo/Sproul

Defensive Zone pair
Ericsson/Jensen - Ouellet (Marchenko)

****

If Daley goes to shut-down pair:
DeKeyser - Daley

Offensive Zone:
Kronwall - Green

Defensive Zone:
Ericsson - Ouellet/Jensen

***

At Pittsburgh Daley played at D-zone pair with Määttä.

Shut-down pair:
Dumoulin - Letang/Hainsey

Offensive Zone pair:
Cole/Pouliot - Schultz

Defensive Zone pair:
Määttä - Daley/Ruhwedel

Hysterical.
Key question: Can being paired with Trevor Daley help DeKeyser return to his previous form?

Answer: Nope

That pairing won't last a 1/2 period under Blashill's maniacal line juggling. I've watched a bunch of Pittsburgh PO games this summer and folks I've go to remind you...Daley is not all that. Touted as a great skater and offensive threat- he looks slow and 9/10 times dumps the puck glass and out. He's the definition of average and that's not good enough to relieve pressure off of Danny D.

I think the Daley signing blows up in Holland's face like a trick cigar.

I thought Daley had a great postseason. Makes the smart play and can actually connect on an outlet pass. The guy is the 2nd best defenseman in Detroit, not bad for $3.1M per for three years. Holland might have another signing blow up in his face, this won't be it.

I'd put my money on this to start the season, pending no injuries

DK Daley

Kronwall Green

Ericsson Jensen

Oullete
That could be day 1 if Kronner is "healthy". Will be interesting to see if Blash has the stones to sit Kronner if that happens though. He was pretty clearly our worst D last season, as sad as it is to say. Ouellet should be playing imo.

Yeah, I want XO to be playing when the season starts, too. But I also thought Russo earned a shot at starting this year.

XO-Green
Kronwall/Ericsson-Russo

Let's just play a new system ....

1 cherry picker - Larkin/AA/ Mantha/ Tatar

3 defensive F's - Zetterberg/Nielsen/ <insert everyone else>

1 D - clear the puck as you touch it

In all seriousness, Having Daley is a good thing. He might end up being a bad signing but if that pushes Green down the line up he can only look better making is TDL value go up, right????

Did Daley retire, die, or get hurt?

Detroit Red Wings Line-Up I have (22) active, Athanasiou would make it 23 players.
Sign PA Parenteau to a 1 year league minimum deal.

If Athanasiou signs, I'd install him into the middle 6 at 3LW, move abdelkader to 3RW and Bertuzzi to 4RW, then remove Parenteau from lineup.

Im gonna go with this lineup for opening night.

Line 1 LW Zetterberg C Nielsen RW Tatar
Line 2 LW Nyquist C Larkin RW Mantha
Line 3 LW Abdelkader C Helm RW Bertuzzi
Line 4 LW Glendening C Sheahan RW Parenteau

1st D-Pair LD DeKeyser RD Green
2nd D-Pair LD Ouellet RD Daley
3rd D-Pair LD Kronwall RD Jensen

Goalie's:
Starter: Mrazek
Backup: Howard

Scratched List
RW Witkowski
LD Ericsson
LW Athanasiou ~ RFA
RD Sproul + Torn ACL LTIR
RW Franzen + Post Concussion Syndrome (Career Ending) LTIR

Mantha Zetterberg and Nyquist has potential to look like a real 1st line if they all get it together. I like that proposition.

If I ran this team, this is the roster I'd put together:

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Mantha
Tatar-Larkin-Svechnikov
Abdelkader-Nielsen-AA
Helm-Sheahan-Bertuzzi

XO-Green
Dekeyser-Russo
Daley-Kronwall

Mrazek
Howard

I recognize there's a couple of names missing, that is deliberate.

Assuming we have AA, based on the first 2 preseason games lines placeholders I'm gonna assume the first 3 lines will be:
Tatar-Hank-Nyquist
AA-Larkin-Mantha
Abby-Nielsen-Helm

Probable AA/Abby switch, but I'll go ahead and keep my assumption.

I would do the AA/Abby switch so Mantha doens't have to play net-front. Guy can just be the Wesley who SNIPES. :)

Did Bertuzzi get hurt? Otherwise, the forward group looks fine. As expected, that defense is a tire fire.
He hurt his wrist in one of the first preseason games, it was reported 3-4 weeks on September 23, so first week or two of the season.
